In Win 509 review – a masterpiece suitable for configurations with water cooling

We, like probably many of you, are fond of the gigantic cases. Today, we will introduce you to such a case – In Win 509. The model includes several customization options – a removable panel for storage devices as well as an option for installing up to 8 fans or some radiators for water cooling. Last but not least, this case has RGB lighting in the front part, while the glass side lid allows you to enjoy the configuration you have. This case is suitable for almost all types of motherboards and the configuration which we have combined In Win 509 with has a standard ATX motherboard. In the review, we have also attached an official video that presents the case.

In the next few lines, we will take a look at the retail package, as well as the interior and the location of the elements in the case itself. What’s more, we put it to some temperature tests which we conducted as we loaded the CPU and GPU at 100%.

Retail package

The first thing that astounded us was the size of the cardboard box in which the In Win 509 arrived. You yourselves can imagine how big a cardboard box is needed to accommodate a case with dimensions 527mm x 235mm x 578mm. There are two openings cut in both ends for convenience when the item is transported. We advise you, although you may be excited to open the box as soon as possible, not to hurry to carry the 17 kg kit on your own.

Let’s assume that everything went according to plan and the huge cardboard box is in your home. The first thing that you will encounter is a big black ‘cloak’. The case is inside. They are positioned in such way that there are styrofoam blocks in the four angles, which add shock-resistance to the package.

Besides the black cloak with the case, inside there is also a kit with various tools – an instruction booklet, fasteners, a plate that supports the GPU, as well as rubber ‘legs’ which you should put at the bottom of the case to avoid scratching the object on which the machine is placed.

Outside In Win 509

We shift to the depths of the black cloak. Inside, we find the In Win 509 itself which in our case is in the Black/Red color option. The panel of tempered glass definitely gathers attention. The model, which combines black and red color, also has a Republic of Gamers Certified sticker in the lower right corner of the glass right next to the locking screw.

In the front part of the case we find the usual USB hub, two audio jacks, respectively for the microphone and headphones, as well as power on/off and restart buttons. Another glass panel is placed under them and it is connected by clips allowing easier access to the front part of the box. The glowing RGB logo of In Win is located behind the glass facade. Additionally, the right side of the box is made of the same material as the chassis – electro-galvanized steel. We can see that the In Win 509 design includes additional vent openings in this part, which also add an epic touch to the design.

Inside In Win 509

In the next pictures we see the “undressed” In Win 509. A direct example of the removable front panel. We noticed that the red detail of the box splits it into several parts. Starting from the front end, we find the department which allows the installation of up to six 120-millimeter fans or up to four of 140 mm ones. The space will be enough even for a 360-millimeter tank for water cooling. Above the red element we see two removable HDD or SSD slots, suitable for both 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch devices. The largest part, separated in the case, is meant for a motherboard and power supply.

The EZ slots for storage devices are also in the main compartment of In Win 509. They are the so-called “drawers” that can be pulled out and just like the above-mentioned allow the installation of 2.5 and 3.5-inch disks. The difference here is that the SATA connectors for charging and data transfer are placed in the inner part of the element and they are situated in a way that when the “drawer” is closed they click directly into a device’s ports.

Further back we find the strips that cover the PCIe ports. They are in the same red color as the supporting element in the middle of the case. The fixing of these strips is extremely convenient because it is realized by bolts with huge ribbed head, thanks to which they can be unscrewed without instruments. Also, the space determined for the charging block is located beneath them.

The cables connecting the front panel with the bottom are diligently bound to the case chassis with the help of a wire string. They include two USB 3.0 connectors, which divide into two each. Besides these, there are the on/off and restart buttons jacks, as well as the HD Audio cables. One of the expansion cabels of the EZ panel peeps out behind them.

Speaking of this panel, we should mention that it could be removed or moved to the other side of the red column. It becomes obvious that the manufacturers have really thought of convenience in customizing this model – the panel is held by a single bolt in its front part.

In Win 509 is definitely oriented towards delivering the perfect cooling to the hardware mounted in it. This is why it is equipped with two dust filters – one at the front and one at the bottom – right under the power supply and optional fan, and it can be installed in the place of the storage panel. We can see that in addition to the conventionality to include such filters, In Win have also added an option for easy removal and cleaning. In order to gain access to the filter in the front part of the case, you need to take off the front panel which, as mentioned before, is removed without any effort and to get to the bottom filter you just have to pull out the “ear” behind the opening of the power supply block.

System images and temperature tests

In In Win 509 we installed an ASRock Fatal1ty X370 Gaming K4 motherboard along with AMD Ryzen 7 1800X cooled by be quiet! PURE ROCK, 16 GB DDR4 RAM and passively cooled Palit GeForce GTX 1050 Ti KalmX GPU. The tests were launched with the help of a Samsung PM951 M.2 SSD device.

The CPU temperatures were registered in four benchmarks for testing CPU performance, namely – Cinebench 11 and R15, Fritz and NovaBench. For this purpose we overclocked Ryzen 7 1800X to 4 GHz and added a 120 mm fan in the rear part of the case. We remind you that In Win 509 doesn’t come with fans when purchased.

Verdict

We live in times when computer components become more and more powerful and need even more cooling power, so the manufacturers have the opportunity to stand out more than ever. A big-sized case just doesn’t suffice. It should be well thought-out in order to optimize airflow and moreover – to provide users with enough options to be flexible when choosing computer components. In Win 509 is afraid neither of long GPUs nor of massive CPU coolers. Instead, it even provides an option for full water cooling of its components. In this line of thought, we should also mention that the filters which are placed in the right places made a good impression on us.

We found out through the conducted tests that even with a single fan the system has enough cooling capacity for the components we had. Of course, just like anything else In Win 509 is not an epitome of a non-existent perfect product. We will have to disappoint the “completely silent computer configurations” maniacs and mention that there is a gap of no more than 5 millimeters between the glass panel and the chassis of the machine which will most probably let some of the noise outside when connecting a larger number of fans.

On the other hand, In Win 509 won us with its aristocratic appearance and customization options. When purchasing the case we recommend also ordering fans because they are not included in the kit.
