Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 11 review – it’s ultra-light and the battery life is outstanding

    Design and construction

The machine looks clean and stealthy in black color. The lid is made out of carbon fiber while the base is aluminum. The chassis rigidity is good. The base is solid and you can slightly bend it in the area between the touchpad and the Space keycap. You can flex the lid but not much.

You can open it with a single hand which is great news considering the ultra-low starting weight of just 1.12 kilos! The devices with a 720p Web camera have a profile of 14.96 mm while the thickness of the other ones is 15.36 mm.

The bezels around the panel are thin and the top one has a slight “hump” for easier opening. There, you’ll also find a Web camera. Four models are available – the base one is a 720p unit and the next three offer 1080p resolution. Two of them are IR variants, and the top-tier variant boasts MIPI and Computer Vision technology.

Oh, yes, all Web cameras have a privacy shutter.

The 180-degree hinge allows the device to lay flat on a surface. This reveals the backlit spill-resistant keyboard (surrounded by two tall Dolby Atmos speakers) that is silent during typing. The fingerprint reader is built into the power button. The board offers a long key travel while the feedback is good but we’ve better. Overall, the board is comfortable to use.

As always, the Trackpoint is here, between the “G”, “H”, and “B” keys, and it works in a duo with the trio of buttons above the touchpad. The pad is a bit small (56 x 110 mm) but its glass surface feels so smooth. The unit is fast and accurate.

The bottom panel houses three rubber feet, two speaker cutouts, and a small ventilation grill that reveals the two cooling fans. The heat is guided through a vent on the back of the laptop. Some hot air makes its way to the display under heavy CPU stress.

    Ports

On the left, there are two Thunderbolt 4 connectors (both support data transfer, Power Delivery 3.0 and DisplayPort 1.4a), a USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, and an HDMI 2.1 (for up to 4K 60Hz external displays). On the right, there is a Kensington Nano security lock slot, another USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port with an Always On function, a Nano-SIM card slot, and an Audio combo jack.
