Tenda IT6-LRS review – security camera with a lot of features

Let’s say you already own a full-blown video security kit like the Tenda K4W-3TC, but you need a camera with better specs for your courtyard or room full of valuable items. In this scenario, you don’t need to buy another kit with a new NVR; you just need to replace one of your cameras with a more advanced one. The Tenda IT6-LRS is such a product – loaded with features and, on top of that, priced on the lower side.

So, what’s the deal with this gadget? It can be connected to an NVR, and you can start using it right away. Yes, it’s not a standalone product; you have to “plug it” into your existing equipment, enhancing the security abilities of your kit. What’s in the box?

The box is small but sturdy enough to adequately protect the internals. Inside, you’ll find the camera itself, a waterproofing kit, and some manuals.

Design and construction

The camera is larger than the four units included in the Tenda K4W-3TC kit. However, the product looks attractive with its black and white color scheme, and the design is also up-to-date.

Installation, Features, Setup, and Testing

This Tenda camera can be installed on the wall or ceiling. The catch is that there is no mounting kit in the box, so you have to purchase one. There is also no AC adapter included in the package. In our case, we used the default one found in the aforementioned security kit (a 12V / 1.0A / 12W unit). Besides that, the camera is almost a plug-and-play gadget. You simply need to connect a LAN cable to add the new device to the NVR’s menu. Most people will likely prefer to control the camera using the Tenda TDSEE program, but you can also do this through the Web UI of the NVR or locally from its interface (if you have connected a monitor). When we examined the adjustable settings, we noticed the clear advantage of the Tenda IT6-LRS over the standard Tenda K4W-3TC cameras in terms of recording. The IT6-LRS can record videos in 8748 Kbps / 25 FPS mode, while the K4W-3TC cameras are capable of 4096 Kbps / 15 FPS footage. The videos can also be stored in the H.265 format, taking up less space on your HDD.

Durability is a strong point here. The camera is IP66 certified, allowing it to endure snow, rain, and heat. You can use this camera outside your home or office (just remember to install the waterproofing kit). The standout feature is the 50-meter capture range during nighttime, made possible by the four IR lights. For those with large properties, this camera can detect intruders from a considerable distance, which is quite impressive. Speaking of intruders, the Tenda IT6-LRS supports motion detection and will notify you if it detects movement.

Here’s a video sample that includes footage in a dark room, demonstrating the camera’s ability to detect light conditions. It automatically switches to Night mode when the lights are off.

Verdict

The good news is that the camera is user-friendly. After plugging in an AC adapter and LAN cable to the camera, you can add it as a new device from the NVR interface. You can then use the QR code on the box for the fastest way to get the Tenda TDSEE program for controlling the camera. This is the easiest way to start using this product and takes only about five minutes. You can also opt for a more classic approach and control the camera via the Web UI or the local interface of the NVR. Overall, the Tenda IT6-LRS is almost a plug-and-play device, assuming you already have a mounting kit. The unit can be connected to a wide variety of NVRs, which is advantageous if you want to replace one of your cameras with a better one.

The Tenda IT6-LRS is IP66 certified, enabling it to withstand dust, storms, snow, and Miami-like heat. The cherry on top is the 50-meter night vision distance, which could be a game-changer for some, especially when you consider the attractive price. We appreciate the fact that this camera supports ~8Mbps / 25FPS video recording, providing excellent quality and smoothness.
