Tenda TX9 Pro AX3000 review

Nowadays, it’s all about being online – streaming in 4K is getting kind of standard, there are tons of 4K and 8K videos on YouTube that you can watch, online games are super popular at the moment, and you can download or watch directly movies with high quality and resolution. All these things are just normal for 2022 which means that your Wi-Fi router should be ready for a serious load even for home usage. These days, most people are using smartphones, laptops, PCs, consoles, etc, and when all this tech is connected wirelessly to the Internet, your router can have a hard time with so many connections at the same time.

One of the main advantages of Wi-Fi 6 and routers like the Tenda TX9 Pro AX3000 is that the new wireless standard can provide larger bandwidth to a bigger amount of devices while the lag should be as low as possible. Of course, the 802.11ax tech is the main event here but Tenda got some other goodies that should boost the overall positive experience – we will talk about OFDMA, MU-MIMO, and FEM Modules a bit further in the review. We really like the presence of BSS coloring technology – if you live in a crowded area with many different home or office wireless networks, this tech will reduce the interference which can boost the overall performance of your own network.

What’s in the box?

Like many other routers from the same brand, the Tenda TX9 Pro AX3000 is fitted in a big and sturdy box so the device is well protected. Inside, you’ll find the router itself, an AC adapter, a flat UTP cable (nice), and some manuals.

Design and construction

The device isn’t that alien-looking like its sibling – the Tenda AC23 AC2100. Aside from that, the Tenda TX9 Pro AX3000 looks modern thanks to the matte finish. The bottom plate has a lot of holes which help for better cooling and heat dissipation.

Installation, Features, Setup, and Testing

The installation is easy – after connecting the router to your PC or laptop with a LAN cable you can enter the following address in your browser – 192.168.1.1 (or 192.168.0.1). After that, you have access to the routers’ settings. Expectedly, the first thing that you have to do is to change the default password for accessing the router.

Of course, the menus are similar to the ones that can be found in other routers from the same brand. You can tweak and fine-tune so many settings. The good news is, you don’t have to be an expert for doing this – just set a Wi-Fi password and you can leave most of the settings on auto. Advanced users can take advantage of extras like unifying or splitting the 2.4GHz and the 5GHz networks, the channel bandwidth can be also tweaked, and the Smart Wi-Fi Schedule can be useful if you don’t want your kids to use the wireless network during the night.

Just a lot of other Tenda routers, this own supports Guest network which can be pretty handy when you have a party in your house and you don’t want your guests to have access to your main network. You can also filter the MAC addresses of the devices that can connect to your Wi-Fi, and the built-in firewall can block DDOS attacks.

Moreover, you can do some simple things like reset, reboot, and system log – these actions can be executed through the Tenda mobile app so you don’t have to be at home for accessing your router.

Last but not least, you have control to extras like System Log where you can see more data about your network, and you can execute simple things like reboot, reset or you can backup your current settings so you don’t have to set up everything again after a reset. Remote management is available too but the best way to do that is to use the Tenda mobile app which allows you to have a decent amount of control when you are on the go.

Using the Tenda TX9 Pro AX3000 is pure joy – we experienced zero problems during the testing. We have tons of devices in our office – smartphones, laptops, consoles, PCs, smartwatches, and some other gadgets that can use the Wi-Fi network. When we connected all these machines to the router everything was fine in terms of connection. Playing games, browsing different Web sites, watching 4K YouTube videos – we are able to do all these actions at the same time without experiencing connection problems or lag. This is possible due to the dual-core CPU which can handle more connections at the same time. The Tenda TX9 Pro AX3000 has other tricks up in its sleeve – like the OFDMA which signals from multiple devices to be transmitted simultaneously with reduced lag (because each channel is divided into small smaller sub-channels) while MU-MIMO provides better and stronger Wi-Fi coverage because the router can communicate with multiplayer devices with its antennas.

Verdict

Tenda TX9 Pro AX3000 is a modern-looking device that comes bundled with up-to date features. Its minimalistic design isn’t intrusive at all and we like the fact that the router is well-protected in its sturdy box and the provided flat LAN cable is a nice touch. In terms of features, for that kind of price tag, this device offers a lot. As we said earlier, using wirelessly a lot of different devices connected at the same time to the router is a butter smooth experience even when the signal has to go through thick walls. The Tenda TX9 Pro AX3000 is well-prepared for modern-day heavy usage with techs like MU-MIMO and OFDMA which lead to lower lag, improved speed, and better Wi-Fi coverage. Beamfolding is a great tool when you want to strengthen the signal directly to one of your devices.

The dual-core CPU definitely helps when you want to connect tons of different gadgets to your router and Tenda is using other tricks for an even better user experience like Four FEM Modules for enhancing the signal strength, BSS Coloring for reducing the interference with other wireless networks around you, and TWT (Target Wake-up Time technology) which leads to better efficiency. In terms of security, the devices offer a good amount of features like a built-in firewall, Guest network, MAC filtering, Parental Control, and WPA3. The router has a USB port so you can easily share content that can be accessed by all the devices in the network or for creating cloud storage that you can access from all around the world. Last but not least, the Tenda mobile app allows you to have control to the router and tweak different settings remotely.
