[Specs and Info] Lenovo IdeaPad 1 (14″) and IdeaPad 1 (15″) – the entry-level series gets quick access to Alder Lake
Lenovo has quickly gotten to work, delivering the latest tech to one of its cheapest devices. The IdeaPad 1 has traditionally been one of the best entry-level devices, coming with very good specs for the price, with the last generation infamously coming with the Ryzen 5000U-series of CPUs. For the 2022 year, Lenovo is quickly equipping its cheapest device with the Alder Lake U-series of processors, which is very surprising to see, as most other competitors in the space reuse older hardware, which goes down in price.
Today we are giving you a quick overview of the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 (14″, 2021/22) and the IdeaPad 1 (15″, 2021/22).

Design
As this is an entry-level device, you won’t find any metal on it. The whole laptop is made out of plastic, but Lenovo has shown that it could make quality plastic products. In terms of the design itself, you can expect a minimal and sleek appearance, with next to no branding, which is something that we thoroughly enjoy seeing. There is only a small Lenovo badge on the edge of the lid and the base. In terms of dimensions, the 14-inch and 15-inch laptops weigh 1.40 kg and 1.60 kg, respectively, while having a profile of 17.9 mm.
Display
There are two display options for both variants. The base configuration arrives with a Full HD TN display with a max brightness of 220 nits, and either a 400:1 or a 500:1 contrast ratio. We generally wouldn’t recommend going for it, since TN technology is outdated and delivers poor viewing angles, which can ruin the experience. What you should do is upgrade to the Full HD IPS panel, which has a slightly higher max brightness of 250 nits, and a contrast ratio of either 700:1, 800:1, or 1000:1. IPS panels also have a much wider viewing angle.
Specifications and features
Lastly, the hardware options include three Alder Lake U-series processors, the Core i3-1215U, which arrives with 6 cores and eight threads, the Core i5-1235U, and Core i7-1255U, which both have 10 cores and 12 threads. All three CPUs have only 2 Performance cores, while the rest are Efficiency cores. This should provide longer battery life from the 42Wh unit. In terms of graphics, you only have the integrated Iris Xe Graphics G7 with either 64 EU, 80EU, or 96EU, which means varying levels of performance. While you could do some gaming on these laptops, you’ll mostly be able to run esports games at lower settings.
The laptops arrive with an optional fingerprint reader, stereo speakers, and decent I/O coverage, which includes a single USB Type-A 2.0 port, two USB 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports (one Type-A and one Type-C), an SD card reader, an HDMI 1.4b port, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.
