AOC 24G2SPU/BK monitor – Specs, Pros / Cons: How Can A Budget Screen Be This Good?
The AOC 24G2SPU/BK can be affordable in selected regions (such as ours, where you can get it right now for around €160 to €170). On the other hand, you can get it on Amazon for $296, which doesn’t necessarily fall under the “budget” line. However, the AOC 24G2SPU/BK isn’t your average budget gaming monitor, as while it has the gaming specs locked in, it offers more than that. Still, let’s go over them. The AOC 24G2SPU/BK comes with a 165Hz refresh rate, a 1ms response time, as well as AdaptiveSync support, which is the standardized Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) technology from VESA.
In terms of the rest, we can give you a bit of a spoiler by saying that this AOC screen is great for more than gaming, as its color coverage and accuracy are pretty impressive. The overall design and the features that it offers are really fitting for a more expensive monitor, putting the AOC 24G2SPU/BK in prime position to be a best-selling gaming monitor.

Drivers and Software
The driver for the monitor can be downloaded from this link. AOC offers additional software like the iMenu and GMenu, which give you OSD-level control through the operating system, allowing you to use a mouse and keyboard for faster adjustments. You can find all available software tools on AOC’s Software Page.
Design and Connectivity
As with most AOC Gaming monitors, this one also utilizes the Black and Red color scheme. Thanks to the 24-inch size, the monitor is compact, so the Full HD resolution fits it perfectly. The bezels are thin, except for the chin. The stand on the back looks like it’s broken, but that’s a design feature, we guess. There’s a small hexagonal cable channel so you can reroute cables easier. The stand offers every available adjustability movement, including 25.5° of Tilt, 90° of Pivot (so the monitor moves vertically only one way), 60° of Swivel, and last but not least, 130 mm of height adjustment.
The port selection is quite full, offering two HDMI 1.4 ports, a single DisplayPort 1.2, a VGA port, 4 USB 3.2 ports, and an audio jack.
Display quality, Buy our profiles, Verdict
The AOC 24G2SPU/BK brings a 23.8-inch Full HD screen (1920 x 1080), which calculates to a pixel density of 92.56 PPI, a pitch of 0.2744 x 0.2744 mm, and a Retina distance of 37.14 inches or 94.33 cm. From this distance, the human eye can’t distinguish individual pixels.
The correlated color temperature on a white screen after a Factory Reset in sRGB mode is 6480 K (Luminance 150 cd/m2 at 20% Brightness). The average gamma value is 2.18.
Color coverage
Here’s an illustration (Fig. 1). The whole “sail-shaped” map below consists of all the colors we can see, while the black crooked line shows all the colors from real-world scenes and nature around us.
Then, we’ve drawn some of the most important and interesting color spaces, compared to the colors the panel of AOC 24G2SPU/BK can show:
Standard/For Web: sRGB – widely used color space for most consumer devices, ideal for Web design and development
For Print: AdobeRGB – used in professional photo editing, graphic design, and print
For Photographers/Video Editors: DCI-P3 – used in high-end film production, post-production, and digital cinema
Premium HDR: Rec.2020 – the widest consumer ITU color standard, covering a massive 75.8% of the visible spectrum, a benchmark for premium HDR content
AOC 24G2SPU/BK: the yellow dashed triangle (– – – – – –) represents the range of colors this monitor can display. In our tests, we calculated the total color coverage of the monitor at 99% of the sRGB color gamut and 92% of the DCI-P3 color gamut.
(Fig.1) AOC 24G2SPU/BK covers 99% of the Web colors (sRGB)
This means that if the AOC 24G2SPU/BK tries to show any color outside of its triangle, it will show the closest color to it that’s inside the triangle.
Color accuracy
Now let’s see how big is the difference between the real colors and the one you’ll see on the AOC 24G2SPU/BK. We measure that distance in DeltaE – the bigger the number, the more different they look.
For the next illustration, we’ve chosen 24 common colors like dark and light skin, blue sky, green grass, etc.
Values below 2.0 are considered suitable for color-sensitive work. Before our calibration of the AOC 24G2SPU/BK, the Average color accuracy was 3.5 dE (Fig. 2), and with our Web Design and Office Work profile, it lowered to 1.5 dE (Fig. 3). The profile provides a 2.3X Increase in accuracy, making the monitor suitable for any Creator work.

Health-Guard eliminates the harmful Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) and reduces the negative Blue Light which affects our eyes and body. Since it’s custom-tailored for every panel, it manages to keep the colors perceptually accurate (they may seem strange at first but after a few minutes our brain will start recognizing them as accurate ones – that’s how Health-Guard differs from alternatives like f.lux).
Pro Tip: As the Health-Guard profile simulates paper and has as accurate as possible colors, it could be a great tool for prepress designers!

Gaming and Movies
We also have a third Gaming and Movies profile, which regulates the black colors, making dark areas in games and movies appear more visible, thus giving you a better viewing experience. Shooting at your opponent first can be a make-or-break moment, so make sure you’re best prepared with our profile.

Office Work
Office Work should be used mostly by users who spend most of the time looking at pieces of text, tables or just surfing. This profile aims to deliver better distinctness and clarity by keeping a flat gamma curve (2.20), native color temperature and perceptually accurate colors.
Design and Gaming
This profile is aimed at designers who work with colors professionally, and for games and movies as well. Design and Gaming takes display panels to their limits, making them as accurate as possible in the sRGB IEC61966-2-1 standard for Web and HDTV, at white point D65.
Health-Guard
Health-Guard eliminates the harmful Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) and reduces the negative Blue Light which affects our eyes and body. Since it’s custom tailored for every panel, it manages to keep the colors perceptually accurate. Health-Guard simulates paper so the pressure on the eyes is greatly reduced.

Verdict
As you can see, the AOC 24G2SPU/BK is as versatile as a monitor can get. It is a great gaming screen, with the specs to back it up, while the color reproduction is good enough so that it can be used for plenty of Web Design, as well as anywhere else that requires accurate colors and a complete sRGB color gamut coverage.
It’s not only the gaming specs and the Creator features, as the design and the port selection are great too. Thanks to the adjustable stand, you can put the monitor in pretty much whichever position you prefer so that you stay upright and pain-free during those long working hours.
The port selection, on the other hand, gives you the option to connect peripherals easily, thanks to the USB ports, of which you get four. Many office and productivity monitors don’t get as much, so good job on AOC’s part to include them here.
Our Display Profiles tune up the AOC 24G2SPU/BK to make it better. With the Gaming and Movies profile you can stabilize the black colors and shadows, so you can get a more clear image of what’s going on the screen, which is especially important in fast-paced games. The Web Design and Office Work profile does a great job here, offering a 230% accuracy increase, with a dE value of 1.5 (3.5 before application).
The last of our profiles, the Health Guard keeps Blue Light and PWM (Flickering) to a minimum, as both can be tiring and damaging to your eyes in their unique ways (you can learn more in the respective linked articles).
