Dell G2723H monitor – Specs, Pros / Cons: Deep Color Coverage, High Accuracy, On Top Of All The Gaming Features
When you’re so proud of the G-Sync support you brand your machine with it! This is how you get the Dell G2723H. Specs-wise, it’s one of the most capable gaming monitors that we’ve seen, offering a 240Hz refresh rate and a 0.5 ms response time. And with the G-Sync support, it offers one of the smoothest and most responsive gaming experiences ever. Believe us when we tell you, this is just the start. While you might think that at just a Full HD resolution and a 27-inch frame, this monitor might not be as high in detail as you’d like, and there would be some merit to your worries.
The pixel density isn’t the highest, but the rest of the available features will surely ease your mind and maybe even make you enough of a fan of the Dell G2723H to just buy one right now. We’re talking about the great design, the fantastic stand, as well as the high brightness, and the incredible port selection. What’s more, is that the panel manages to cover a lot of colors, as well as be very accurate, especially when we apply our Display Profiles, tuning up the screen for every specific purpose.

Design and Connectivity
Dell keeps a similar design language for its separate series of monitors, so this G2723H comes with a pretty identical look to other Dell G-series gaming monitors. The monitor has a gunmetal grey finish, albeit it’s entirely made of plastic on the outside. Compared to the more expensive models G-series models, this one doesn’t have the LED strip on the back. You have a gradient Dell logo, as well as a lot of buttons back there. The stand also looks and feels robust. The fact that it also moves in all different directions is incredible, you can adjust the height, the Pivot, Swivel, and Tilt. It also has a hexagonal cable channel for easier cable management. The bezels on the front are pretty thin and the overall look of the monitor certainly gives off some “Gamer” vibes, however, it’s all grown up and developed, and not just some crazy hodge-podge of Black + any other color.
The port selection includes two HDMI 1.4 ports and one DisplayPort 1.4. There’s also an audio jack, and one USB Type-B 3.2 Gen. 1 Upstream port, which allows the rest of the USB ports (of which you have four more Type-A 3.0 ports) to connect to your PC or Laptop.
Display quality, Buy our profiles, Verdict
The Dell G2723H has a 27-inch FHD IPS panel with a 240Hz refresh rate. The pixel density is 81.59 PPI, pitch 0.311 x 0.311 mm. The screen can be considered Retina from a viewing distance of 42.12 inches (106.98 cm). From this distance, the human eye can’t distinguish individual pixels.
The correlated color temperature on a white screen after a Factory Reset in sRGB mode is 6360K (Luminance 150 cd/m2 at 20% Brightness). The average gamma value is 2.18.
Color coverage
Here’s an illustration (Fig. 1). The whole “sail-shaped” map below consists of all the colors we can see, while the black crooked line shows all the colors from real-world scenes and nature around us.
Then, we’ve drawn some of the most important and interesting color spaces, compared to the colors the panel of Dell G2723H can show:
Standard/For Web: sRGB – widely used color space for most consumer devices, ideal for Web design and development
For Print: AdobeRGB – used in professional photo editing, graphic design, and print
For Photographers/Video Editors: DCI-P3 – used in high-end film production, post-production, and digital cinema
Premium HDR: Rec.2020 – the widest consumer ITU color standard, covering a massive 75.8% of the visible spectrum, a benchmark for premium HDR content
Dell G2723H: the yellow dashed triangle (– – – – – –) represents the range of colors this monitor can display. In our tests, we calculated the total color coverage of the monitor at 100% of the sRGB color gamut and 92% of the DCI-P3 color gamut.
(Fig.1) Dell G2723H covers 100% of the Web colors (sRGB)
This means that if the Dell G2723H tries to show any color outside of its triangle, it will show the closest color to it that’s inside the triangle.
Color accuracy
Now let’s see how big is the difference between the real colors and the one you’ll see on the Dell G2723H. We measure that distance in DeltaE – the bigger the number, the more different they look.
For the next illustration, we’ve chosen 24 common colors like dark and light skin, blue sky, green grass, etc.
Values below 2.0 are considered suitable for color-sensitive work. Before our calibration of the Dell G2723H, the Average color accuracy was 3.0 dE (Fig. 2), and with our Web Design and Office Work profile, it lowered to 1.0 dE (Fig. 3). This means that the monitor becomes more than exactly THREE TIMES MORE ACCURATE than it was before, as well as being more than ready for Creator work. Also, values of 1.0 and below are indistinguishable by the human eye so you’re getting the best accuracy possible.

Health-Guard eliminates the harmful Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) and reduces the negative Blue Light which affects our eyes and body. Since it’s custom-tailored for every panel, it manages to keep the colors perceptually accurate (they may seem strange at first but after a few minutes our brain will start recognizing them as accurate ones – that’s how Health-Guard differs from alternatives like f.lux).
Pro Tip: As the Health-Guard profile simulates paper and has as accurate as possible colors, it could be a great tool for prepress designers!

Gaming and Movies
We also have a third Gaming and Movies profile, which regulates the black colors, making dark areas in games and movies appear more visible, thus giving you a better viewing experience. Shooting at your opponent first can be a make-or-break moment, so make sure you’re best prepared with our profile.

Office Work
Office Work should be used mostly by users who spend most of the time looking at pieces of text, tables or just surfing. This profile aims to deliver better distinctness and clarity by keeping a flat gamma curve (2.20), native color temperature and perceptually accurate colors.
Design and Gaming
This profile is aimed at designers who work with colors professionally, and for games and movies as well. Design and Gaming takes display panels to their limits, making them as accurate as possible in the sRGB IEC61966-2-1 standard for Web and HDTV, at white point D65.
Health-Guard
Health-Guard eliminates the harmful Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) and reduces the negative Blue Light which affects our eyes and body. Since it’s custom tailored for every panel, it manages to keep the colors perceptually accurate. Health-Guard simulates paper so the pressure on the eyes is greatly reduced.

Verdict
The Dell G2723H combines the features that you need most and then combines some more to give you a great affordable monitor for both gaming and content creation. It nails the gaming details down to a T, thanks to the very high 240Hz refresh rate, the 0.5 ms response time, and the NVIDIA G-Sync support, which is the best VRR technology that you can get. It offers a range of 30Hz to the max refresh rate of the monitor, so you can enjoy tear-free gaming at pretty much all framerates.
The design is pretty good too, as the monitor can look good in both a gamer’s setup, as well as in a productivity-oriented office or studio. The only caveat is the resolution, which doesn’t offer as much detail as some Creators might want, as with more pixels, you’re able to get an in-depth look at images and resources, so you can fix even the smallest imperfections.
Another bonus is the large port selection, which puts some office monitors to shame. It’s ripe with USBs while having both an HDMI and DisplayPort connection, which is super good. The stand on it is also one of the best that you can get, as you can adjust the monitor pretty much however you like so that it’s the most comfortable for you.
Lastly, our profiles absolutely transform the Dell G2723H from a gaming and productivity monitor to a creator machine. It already shows 100% sRGB and 92% DCI-P3 coverage, but with our Web Design and Office Work profile, it becomes 3X More Accurate, from a dE of 3.0 to a dE of 1.0. This means you can do pretty much any type of color-sensitive work, thanks to the deep coverage and accuracy.
The rest of our profiles do a lot of work outside the creative and office realms. The Gaming and Movies profile helps you see targets in dark areas and scenes much better, while the Health Guard profile keeps your eyes safe, by reducing Blue Light and PWM (Flickering), both of which are known to tire your eyes out pretty quickly, as well as cause headaches.
