日本Display Profiles for MSI Optix G24C6 – Superb Accuracy Ripe for Any Creator
The MSI Optix series of monitors offers something for everyone. Today, we have a super versatile screen, for both PC gaming, as well as console gaming, thanks to a dedicated console mode. Switching things to creativity, MSI promises wide color gamut coverage well into the DCI-P3 gamut, but we’ll check that for ourselves. We’ll also see how much we can improve the color accuracy (future LaptopMedia here, our profiles are doing some heavy liftin’).
Before we get to that though, let us give you a bit of a rundown of the MSI Optix G24C6. It brings a 24-inch (well, 23.6, to be exact) curved VA panel, with a 144Hz refresh rate and a 1ms response time. You also get FreeSync Premium support for tear-free gaming at a pretty wide FPS range that starts from 48 and goes up to 144, perfectly matching the refresh rate of the monitor.

Assembly
There are five screws total, four for attaching the stand to the back of the monitor, and one for securing the stand to the base. Lastly, there’s a shroud that can be placed on top of the screws for a clean appearance.
Drivers and Software
You can find the drivers for the MSI Optix G24C6 on their official Support Page. MSI doesn’t seem to offer any additional software, so drivers are the only thing you get.
Design and Connectivity
The entire monitor comes with black plastic, except for the red button on the back, which looks so good that it should honestly be somewhere on the front. The red is so bright that it might as well launch a missile or something. The monitor has a less aggressive curve, in order to better fit the smaller diagonal. After all, you don’t want the screen to wrap up too much around you.
What’s more important, the bezels are thin and the monitor looks modern, thanks to the uniform color that’s used all around. There are no weird lines, or plastic shapes to make it more gamer-y, but you still feel the slight gamer vibe from it. Still, the more minimalist approach to the design can fit an office rather well. When it comes to movement, the stand only allows tilt positioning, so for more ergonomic tuning, you might want to get a monitor riser, or go all out and get a standing desk, so you can switch between sitting and standing straight when working.
In terms of connectivity, the monitor comes with two HDMI 1.4 ports, a single DisplayPort 1.2, and an audio jack.

MSI brags about the “wide-color gamut” of the Optix G24C6, going as far as to offer a Designer mode inside the color settings in the OSD menu, which supposedly presents the colors more accurately. It would be pretty impressive if the Optix monitor can be good at content creation too. It all starts with this test here, where we test how many colors a display can show.
Color coverage
Here’s an illustration (Fig. 1). The whole “sail-shaped” map below consists of all the colors we can see, while the black crooked line shows all the colors from real-world scenes and nature around us.
Then, we’ve drawn some of the most important and interesting color spaces, compared to the colors the panel of MSI OPTIX G24C6 can show:
Standard/For Web: sRGB – widely used color space for most consumer devices, ideal for Web design and development
For Print: AdobeRGB – used in professional photo editing, graphic design, and print
For Photographers/Video Editors: DCI-P3 – used in high-end film production, post-production, and digital cinema
Premium HDR: Rec.2020 – the widest consumer ITU color standard, covering a massive 75.8% of the visible spectrum, a benchmark for premium HDR content
MSI Optix G24C6: the yellow dashed triangle (– – – – – –) represents the range of colors this monitor can display. In our tests, we calculated the total color coverage of the monitor at 98% of the sRGB color gamut and 86% of the DCI-P3 color gamut. This is a good starting point if you want a creator monitor, however, color accuracy is the next most important thing.

This means that if the MSI Optix G24C6 tries to show any color outside of its triangle, it will show the closest color to it that’s inside the triangle.
Color accuracy
Now let’s see how big is the difference between the real colors and the ones you’ll see on the Lenovo ThinkVision E24-28. We measure that distance in DeltaE – the bigger the number, the more different they look.
For the next illustration, we’ve chosen 24 common colors like dark and light skin, blue sky, green grass, etc.
Values below 2.0 are considered suitable for color-sensitive work. Before our calibration of the MSI Optix G24C6, the Average color accuracy was 5.2 dE (Fig. 2), and with our Web Design and Office Work profile, it lowered to 1.3 dE (Fig. 3). This is an increase of 4x. Also, with a dE way below 2.0, you can handle any type of design or color-grading on the Optix G24C6.

Health-Guard eliminates the harmful Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) and reduces the negative Blue Light which affects our eyes and body. Since it’s custom-tailored for every panel, it manages to keep the colors perceptually accurate (they may seem strange at first but after a few minutes our brain will start recognizing them as accurate ones – that’s how Health-Guard differs from alternatives like f.lux).
Pro Tip: As the Health-Guard profile simulates paper and has as accurate as possible colors, it could be a great tool for prepress designers!

Gaming and Movies
We also have a third Gaming and Movies profile, which regulates the black colors, making dark areas in games and movies appear more visible, thus giving you a better viewing experience. With the MSI Optix G24C6, you get a multi-talented monitor that can do gaming as well as content creation.
