HP M27ha monitor – Specs, Pros / Cons: See How We Make The Monitor 220% More Accurate
Who exactly is the HP M27ha for? Is it the creator crowd? It certainly isn’t the gaming crowd, as, besides the 75Hz refresh rate, there isn’t anything else that would put the monitor in the gaming category. Currently, the monitor is available on Amazon for just $298, with a special offer of $129.99 for a refurbished unit, which is a really good deal.
In terms of the use cases of this monitor, it’s for pretty much any Home PC or Office setup that would require browsing the web, doing some office work, spreadsheets, programming, and any other job that doesn’t require excellent color coverage or accuracy. HP has given the monitor every adjustment that’s under the sun, as the stand moves in pretty much all directions that a stand should.

Design and Connectivity
The design of the monitor isn’t groundbreaking or anything, however, it’s super clean and simple. It offers a completely black chassis, with thin bezels on the sides and the top, as well as a slightly thicker chin. On the back, you can see where the stand attaches to the monitor. It brings all possible adjustment movements, including Tilt, Pivot, Swivel, and Height adjustment. What’s interesting is that the Swivel mechanism works in 360 degrees, so the monitor can make a complete turn. The Pivot feature allows only a 90-degree turn. Further on the back, you can see some perforations, behind which sit the speakers.
In terms of the port selection, the HP M27ha has one HDMI 1.4 port, a DisplayPort 1.4, and a VGA port for the old-school tech that you’ve got lying around.
Display quality, Buy our profiles, Verdict
The HP M27ha brings a 27-inch Full HD screen (1920 x 1080), which calculates to a pixel density of 81.59 PPI, a pitch of 0.3113 x 0.3113 mm, and a Retina distance of 42.14 inches or 107 cm. From this distance, the human eye can’t distinguish individual pixels.
The correlated color temperature on a white screen after a Factory Reset in sRGB mode is 6940 K (Luminance 150 cd/m2 at 20% Brightness). The average gamma value is 2.18.
Color coverage
Here’s an illustration (Fig. 1). The whole “sail-shaped” map below consists of all the colors we can see, while the black crooked line shows all the colors from real-world scenes and nature around us.
Then, we’ve drawn some of the most important and interesting color spaces, compared to the colors the panel of HP M27ha can show:
Standard/For Web: sRGB – widely used color space for most consumer devices, ideal for Web design and development
For Print: AdobeRGB – used in professional photo editing, graphic design, and print
For Photographers/Video Editors: DCI-P3 – used in high-end film production, post-production, and digital cinema
Premium HDR: Rec.2020 – the widest consumer ITU color standard, covering a massive 75.8% of the visible spectrum, a benchmark for premium HDR content
HP M27ha: the yellow dashed triangle (– – – – – –) represents the range of colors this monitor can display. In our tests, we calculated the total color coverage of the monitor at 92% of the sRGB color gamut.
(Fig.1) HP M27ha covers 92% of the Web colors (sRGB)
This means that if the HP M27ha tries to show any color outside of its triangle, it will show the closest color to it that’s inside the triangle.
Color accuracy
Now let’s see how big is the difference between the real colors and the ones you’ll see on the HP M27ha. We measure that distance in DeltaE – the bigger the number, the more different they look.
For the next illustration, we’ve chosen 24 common colors like dark and light skin, blue sky, green grass, etc.
Values below 2.0 are considered suitable for color-sensitive work. Before our calibration of the HP M27ha, the Average color accuracy was 4.7 dE (Fig. 2), and with our Web Design and Office Work profile, it lowered to 2.1 dE (Fig. 3). The profile provides a 2.2X Increase in accuracy, making the monitor close to suitable Creator work.

Health-Guard eliminates the harmful Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) and reduces the negative Blue Light which affects our eyes and body. Since it’s custom-tailored for every panel, it manages to keep the colors perceptually accurate (they may seem strange at first but after a few minutes our brain will start recognizing them as accurate ones – that’s how Health-Guard differs from alternatives like f.lux).
Pro Tip: As the Health-Guard profile simulates paper and has as accurate as possible colors, it could be a great tool for prepress designers!

Gaming and Movies
We also have a third Gaming and Movies profile, which regulates the black colors, making dark areas in games and movies appear more visible, thus giving you a better viewing experience. Shooting at your opponent first can be a make-or-break moment, so make sure you’re best prepared with our profile.

Office Work
Office Work should be used mostly by users who spend most of the time looking at pieces of text, tables or just surfing. This profile aims to deliver better distinctness and clarity by keeping a flat gamma curve (2.20), native color temperature and perceptually accurate colors.
Design and Gaming
This profile is aimed at designers who work with colors professionally, and for games and movies as well. Design and Gaming takes display panels to their limits, making them as accurate as possible in the sRGB IEC61966-2-1 standard for Web and HDTV, at white point D65.
Health-Guard
Health-Guard eliminates the harmful Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) and reduces the negative Blue Light which affects our eyes and body. Since it’s custom tailored for every panel, it manages to keep the colors perceptually accurate. Health-Guard simulates paper so the pressure on the eyes is greatly reduced.

Verdict
The HP M27ha doesn’t have a specialized purpose but is rather a jack-of-all-trades monitor. It’s great for your home setup or for an office, as the Full HD resolution and 27-inch frame provide plenty of space for working, as well as watching movies and shows on it. The 75Hz refresh rate does provide a bit more smoothness to the scrolling and just moving around the OS when using it.
The monitor does provide a lot out of the box, including a super mobile stand, as well as built-in speakers, which further contribute to the entertainment aspect. Now, let’s recap our Display profiles and how much improvement they bring.
The Web Design and Office Work profile makes the HP M27ha 220% more accurate, which means that the colors will be more true to life. This is good, especially considering that the monitor covers close to the full sRGB color gamut (92% to be specific).
The Gaming and Movies profile is rather important, as we all know how irritating it is to look at the screen and not see exactly what’s going on. With the profile, we stabilize the black colors, thus ensuring that dark scenes in movies remain as visible as possible.
The last of the bundle, the Health-Guard is the one you’ll use the most, as it reduces Blue Light and PWM (Flickering). This way, your eyes remain more energized and your sleep quality is improved. You can delve more into both topics by reading the linked articles.
