Design: a refreshed look with three different color schemes
Both laptops can be ordered in Glacier Blue or Original Black colors. Moreover, the G15 model is available in the Electro Punk color scheme that looks curious – the contrast between dark brushed metal and sizzling pink highlights is an interesting one. The Electro Punk Strix G15 is bundled with a large mouse pad that has the same visual appearance as the laptop. In some regions, this version of the G15 can be picked with a full set of Electro Punk-themed accessories – mouse pad, RGB keyboard, headset, gaming mouse, and a special-edition ROG Ranger BP1503 backpack. All these things have the same Electro Punk look and color.
Apart from that, G15 and G17 share almost the same ASUS gaming design with thin bezels around the display and an eye-catching optional RGB keyboard. As for the dimensions, the smaller G15 variant has a 25.8mm profile and weighs 2.39kg, while the 17.3″ G17 is a bit thinner – 22mm but because of the bigger display, its weight is 2.85kg.

Display: up to 240Hz panel option with 3ms response time
The base models of the two notebooks come with a 120Hz display which is a nice extra because in most cases, the basic configuration is “stuck” with a standard 60Hz panel. If you want more there will be a 144Hz option and the G15 model can be ordered with a 240Hz display that has a 3ms response time (ASUS official specs).

Hardware: 10th generation H-series Core processors and NVIDIA RTX Super GPUs
No matter the laptop model, the Comet Lake-H CPUs will be on board. You can configure these machines with up to Intel Core i7-10875H that boasts 8 cores, 16 threads, 16MB cache, 45W TDP, and 2.30 GHz to 5.10 GHz base and boost clocks. In addition to that, ASUS mentioned that even a Core i9 will be available too so if you really need a 5.3GHz boost (for some reason) you can wait a bit more for the top configurations.
GPU-wise, NVIDIA strikes with their new RTX Super GPUs and yes, you can have them in both the Zephyrus G15 and G17. More specifically, you can easily distinguish every configuration because they have a unique name related to the GPU that is fitted inside:
LI = 1650 Ti
LU = 1660 Ti
LV = RTX 2060
LW = RTX 2070
LWS = RTX 2070 SUPER
The RTX Super graphics cards feature higher shader count compared to the non-Super GPUs so at least on paper, they must be faster but we have to test them first. For example, the RTX 2070 comes with 2304 Cuda cores while the Super version has 2560 Cuda cores. The TGP values remain the same.
Connectivity and ports: nice I/O selection
The ports selection looks fine for gaming laptops from this caliber – a Gigabit LAN, one USB 3.2 Type C (Gen 2), three USB 3.2 Type-A (Gen 1), an HDMI 2.0b, and an audio combo jack.
Storage and other specs: 3 M.2 slots, Wi-Fi 6 and more
Welcome to 2020 – 3 NVMe M.2 slots are waiting for appropriate drives to be fitted inside of the laptops. Both notebooks have two RAM slots and you can upgrade the system memory with up to 32GB DDR4 3200MHz. So, in terms of upgradability, ASUS has done a great job. Additionally, you can rely on Wi-Fi 6 for faster downloads, as well as Bluetooth 5.0. Last but not least, the Backlit chiclet-style keyboard with four-zone RGB LEDs and Aura Sync looks more gamer-ish than ever.
