[Comparison] Intel Core i3-1215U vs Core i5-1135G7 – Alder Lake can bleed

Here we are back again, putting another CPU against the Core i3-1215U. The challenger for today is the Core i5-1135G7, which arrives with a higher power limit, fewer cores, and the same number of threads. However, its base clock speed is much higher, which will allow for more performance in the long run, and less fluctuation when it comes to thermals.

Today we are comparing the Intel Core i3-1215U against the Core i5-1135G7.

    CPU benchmarks

The Core i5 shows a lot more performance in the CPU benchmarks, leading the Cinebench 20 test with 47%, and being nearly two seconds quicker in Photoshop.

Results are from the Cinebench R23 CPU test (the higher the score, the better)

    GPU benchmarks

The iGPU inside the Tiger Lake CPU totally crushes its opponent, scoring 45% higher in 3DMark Fire Strike and 39% higher in Unigine Superposition.

Results are from 3DMark Fire Strike (Graphics) benchmark (higher the score, the better)

The results are from 3DMark Wild Life Extreme Unlimited. Higher is better.

Results are from the Unigine Superposition benchmark (higher the score, the better)

    Conclusion

Similar to the Ryzen 3 5300U, the Core i5-1135G7 manages to outclass the Core i3-1215U in most CPU-intensive tasks, while the iGPU on the inside also manages to keep up and even outperform the Alder Lake offering in most use cases. As we can see, Alder Lake isn’t that unbeatable, especially in the low-end, where older chips can still be relevant in certain areas.
