[Comparison] Intel Core i7-1165G7 vs i7-1065G7 – the new one is a potential game-changer

Even though Intel has recently been on the losing side in the CPU world they still continue to reinvent their CPUs and present new innovations. In this comparison, we have last year’s Intel Core i7-1065G7 versus this year’s contender – the Intel Core i7-1165G7. The latter is based on the new Tiger Lake architecture and it has the potential to be even better than previous power-efficient Intel CPUs. These new processors promise better battery life for mobile platforms and better performance.

Mobile CPUs are a popular option for a lot of consumers and this is why we decided to see how they compare against one another. This comparison is a work-in-progress and it will be updated when we have more tests for the new Tiger Lake-based processors.

Specs

There are two notable changes in the Core i7-1165G7 when compared to the Core i7-1065G7. Firstly, the new one has a slightly higher base and boost frequencies, starting at 2.80GHz and maxing out at 4.40 GHz, and secondly, it is equipped with 4MB more cache than its predecessor. These two changes suggest that the Core i7-1165G7 should perform better than the older version.

CPU Benchmarks

In the Cinebench 15 3D rendering test the i7-1165G7 performed 30% better than the i7-1065G7. When it came to Adobe Photoshop the newer Tiger Lake Chip was better as well, being 1.2 seconds faster.

Results are from the Cinebench 20 CPU test (the higher the score, the better)

Results are from our Photoshop benchmark test (the lower the score, the better)

GPU Benchmarks

In terms of GPU performance, the new Iris Xe Graphics G7 is superior throughout all of our tests registering performance gains that range from 88% to up to 133%.

Results are from the 3DMark: Time Spy (Graphics) benchmark (higher the score, the better)

Results are from the 3DMark: Fire Strike (Graphics) benchmark (higher the score, the better)

Results are from the Unigine Superposition benchmark (higher the score, the better)
