HP ProBook 440 G9 – Top 5 Pros and Cons
The ProBook series from HP is one of the better value-oriented business offerings on the market, always having the latest hardware and good security, while not charging an arm and a leg. The 14-inch ProBook 440 G9 is by far the most popular of the bunch, as 140nches seems to be the sweet spot between portability and still having enough space on the screen to do a fair bit of work.
Today we’re presenting you with LaptopMedia’s top 5 picks about the HP ProBook 440 G9.
HP ProBook 440 G9: Full Specs / In-depth Review
4 reasons to BUY the HP ProBook 440 G9
1. Design and build quality
The ProBook exudes quality, with a fully aluminum chassis that has the essential cool-to-the-touch feeling. It shows a bit of flex from the lid and base, however, it’s nothing that we’d qualify as worrying. The design is fairly standard, with sharp edges, rounded corners, and a classic HP logo on the lid. In terms of portability, the ProBook is kept lightweight, weighing only 1.39 kg and having a profile of 19.9 mm. With the larger battery, the weight jumps to 1.43 kg.
The lid opens with one hand, revealing a large horizontal speaker grill and a smaller keyboard. While it doesn’t have a NumPad, due to size constraints, the key travel is long and the feedback is clicky, which ensures comfort during long typing sessions. The touchpad could be bigger, however, it’s still very smooth and accurate, so we have nothing negative to say about it.
2. Upgradeability
Despite having a 14-inch chassis, the ProBook offers two SODIMM slots for up to 32GB of DDR4 memory. There are also two M.2 slots for SSDs, but if you have an LTE card installed, you won’t be able to access the one on the left.
Here is our detailed teardown video, which shows how to access both the RAM and storage slots inside the machine.
3. Battery life
Here we have the bigger 51.3 Wh battery pack, which lasts for 13 hours and 3 minutes of Web browsing, or 8 hours and 54 minutes of video playback. Now, we conduct the battery tests with the Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits, and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with.
4. Performance
With the Core i5-1235U, you get 10 cores and 12 threads. In 3D Rendering, the ThinkPad E14 Gen 4, the Aspire Vero, and MSI Modern 14 do perform better, however, scores in Photoshop are pretty equal. Overall, you’d have no problem with most types of office work on the laptop.
Results are from the Cinebench R23 CPU test (the higher the score, the better)
1 reason NOT to buy the HP ProBook 440 G9
1. Display
Lastly, the 14-inch Full HD IPS panel is great for general use, with comfortable viewing angles, and a decent max brightness of 295 nits. However, if you want to do anything color-related, we’d have to disappoint you, as there’s only 51% sRGB coverage.
The color accuracy also doesn’t improve significantly, even with our Design and Gaming profile, which lowers the dE value to 4.0, whereas we consider a panel accurate with a value of 2 or below. Here are the results of our tests with the stock settings (left) and with our profile applied (right).
Buy our profiles
Since our profiles are tailored for each display model, this article and its respective profile package are meant for HP ProBook 440 G9 configurations with 14.0″ AUO AUO818B (FHD, 1920 × 1080) IPS panel.

In addition to receiving efficient and health-friendly profiles, by buying LaptopMedia's products you also support the development of our labs, where we test devices in order to produce the most objective reviews possible.

Office Work
Office Work should be used mostly by users who spend most of the time looking at pieces of text, tables or just surfing. This profile aims to deliver better distinctness and clarity by keeping a flat gamma curve (2.20), native color temperature and perceptually accurate colors.

Design and Gaming
This profile is aimed at designers who work with colors professionally, and for games and movies as well. Design and Gaming takes display panels to their limits, making them as accurate as possible in the sRGB IEC61966-2-1 standard for Web and HDTV, at white point D65.

Health-Guard
Health-Guard eliminates the harmful Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) and reduces the negative Blue Light which affects our eyes and body. Since it’s custom tailored for every panel, it manages to keep the colors perceptually accurate. Health-Guard simulates paper so the pressure on the eyes is greatly reduced.
