[Specs and Info] Acer Chromebook 314 (CB314-2H/CB314-2HT/C922/C922T) – An ARM Chromebook seems fitting
A Chromebook is one of the best ways to get someone into technology, as the user experience is friendly and everything basically works off of the Chrome browser, minimizing the risks of viruses and unwanted software. Some models are also getting access to the Play store, offering more apps and features to expand the usability of the device. The Acer Chromebook 314 (CB314-2H/CB314-2HT/C922/C922T) does things a bit differently, relying on an ARM SoC with a CPU and a GPU inside, to deliver snappy performance. As ChromeOS and Android itself are based on Linux, we expect the combination to work pretty well, which isn’t exactly the case on Windows and its slow rollout of ARM support.
Today we’re giving you a quick overview of the Acer Chromebook 314 (CB314-2H/CB314-2HT/C922/C922T).
Acer Chromebook 314 (CB314-2H/CB314-2HT/C922/C922T): Full Specs
Design
The laptop comes in a very light chassis that weighs just 1.50 kg while having a profile of 19.7 mm. It has a silver finish, with the edges being glossier than the rest. In terms of build materials, we assume that the Chromebook will be made of plastic, but considering that this is made to be a more affordable option, we find no problems with it. The keyboard deck looks clean, with a black keyboard that looks a lot like a MacBook unit.
The port selection of the device includes a single USB 2.0 port, one USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, and a 3.5 mm audio jack, which is too small for our liking.
Display
There are two displays to pick from, either an HD TN panel or a Full HD IPS panel. We would recommend going for the IPS model, which has better-viewing angles and overall better color reproduction. There’s also a touchscreen option available, giving you another way of interacting with the device.
Specifications and features
The Chromebook is powered by the Mediatek MT8183, an SoC with an octa-core processor that runs at 2.00GHz. It’s a few years old at this point but is still fairly used in more affordable machines that don’t need the latest and greatest. It has an ARM Mali-G72 MP3 GPU with 3 cores that are going to cut it when it comes to watching movies and TV shows, as well as browsing the web. The laptop comes with only 4GB of LPDDR4x RAM, which means you shouldn’t open that many tabs in Chrome and keep it light. Storage-wise, there is only up to 64GB, which will probably be fine, as most of the work is done on the cloud.
