[Specs and Info] ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 (GU604, 2023) – High-powered graphics in a thin chassis, what’s not to like?

Last year, the Zephyrus M16 provided a lot of performance, while also covering you on the display and design fronts. In 2023, ASUS finally revealed the upgraded version for the new model year, which takes the M16 and juices it up with more powerful hardware and a better display.

Today we’re giving you a quick tour of the ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 (GU604, 2023), including how ASUS plans to cool it down.

ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 (GU604, 2023): Full Specs

Design

The laptop does use the same chassis from last year, however, there have been some style improvements. The AniMe Matrix on the lid now has much more detail, thanks to 18,710 holes with LEDs behind them, in order to achieve crispier and cleaner visuals. You can choose to display animations, some text, a logo, audio visualization, or create your own thing to put on there. The rest of the machine is built from aluminum and has a sleek finish that’s also resistant to fingerprints. Despite the 16-inch form factor, the keyboard lacks a NumPad, but it still has a backlight, with either White or a single-zone RGB. The Zephyrus M16 comes with a weight of 2.10 kg and has a profile of 22.9 mm, which is totally fine for a 16-inch machine with this level of hardware.

Display

The ROG Nebula HDR Display is an internal standard of quality from ASUS, so even if you’re not well-versed in display and laptop specifications as a whole, you know you’re getting a good panel once you see the Nebula standard. Here, we have a QHD+ 16:10 IPS display with a 240Hz refresh rate and 100% DCI-P3 coverage. The display uses Mini LED technology for backlighting, with 1024 dimming zones, while also bringing support for G-Sync and Adaptive-Sync. Color accuracy should be great, considering the Pantone validation and Dolby Vision HDR support.

Specifications and features

Powered by the Core i9-13900H, there will be no lack of performance since with 14 cores and 20 threads, there’s hardly anything you won’t be able to do. For graphics, you’re getting a big upgrade from NVIDIA and their 40-series, as even the base configuration comes with a 140W RTX 4070, while there are 145W versions of the RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 as well.

Cooling is done using 7 heat pipes and three fans, as well as liquid metal from Thermal Grizzly for better coverage and dissipation. All three fans come with an improved Arc Flow design, as the blade is curved and has a feathered edge. With the increase in heat pipes, we can finally have 0dB cooling, as when the laptop is just sitting or doing simple tasks, the fans don’t need to work, which results in no noise whatsoever.

For connectivity, ASUS has a large chassis to play with, and they filled it out well, with two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 2) ports, one UBS Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) port, a Thunderbolt 4 port, an HDMI 2.1 port, a MicroSD card reader, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.

Looking at the base, we see front-firing speakers flanking the keyboard. There are a total of six speakers, with two force-canceling woofers, bringing balanced audio and Dolby Atmos support. The 3D Microphone setup comes with AI noise-canceling technology, which was pioneered by ASUS’ Expertbook business devices.
