[Specs and Info] Dynabook Portege X40L-K – More BLUE than ever before

Dynabooks aren’t really on a lot of regular consumers’ radars, however, they should be, as the laptop provides a lot of security and good hardware. Today we have the Portege X40L-K, a very light 14-inch machine powered by the 28W Alder Lake P-series. The device has a great look, as well as a lot of features, which can be useful outside the office. With the hardware that it has, it can be used as a portable and mobile workstation to do work on the go.

Today we’re giving you a quick overview of the Dynabook Portege X40L-K.

Dynabook Portege X40L-K: Full Specs

Design

The Portege uses a lighter and brighter shade of blue than other laptops from the brand, which we really like, as it gives it a nice pop that will be seen by other people at the office. For a 14-inch product, it weighs only 1.05 kg, which is absolutely insane. Dynabook accomplishes this by making the device entirely from magnesium, which also improves its durability. Magnesium is one of the better materials when it comes to pound-for-pound durability. Since it’s so tough, the metal can be cut into thinner sheets, lowering the thickness. With that, the laptop comes with a profile of just 15.9 mm. Furthermore, there is a MIL-STD-810H certification for durability. There is a big rubber strip on the bottom panel, which acts as a stand, giving the cooling on the bottom more access to air.

Display

The Portege X40L-K is oriented towards productivity, using a 14-inch FHD+ IPS panel with a 16:10 aspect ratio. According to specs, the panel can go as high as 400 nits, which is all well and good. We’re also looking to see good color coverage, which should be the case, considering the aspect ratio and how the Portege series is higher up in the Dynabook pyramid.

Specifications and features

The laptop uses the entire Alder Lake P-series range, offering the Core i5-1240P, Core i5-1250P, Core i7-1260P, and Core i7-1270P, all with 12 cores and 16 threads. The Core i7 CPUs come with higher clock speeds, more cache, as well a more powerful iGPU. All CPUs use the Iris Xe Graphics G7, with 80 Execution Units for the i5 and 96 Execution Units for the i7. With these specs, the Dynabook can handle even more complex work like video editing and rendering, as Intel’s iGPUs have shown to be capable of handling such tasks.

In terms of features, we see a decent array, including an HD webcam with an IR sensor for facial recognition, a fingerprint reader inside the power button, and stereo speakers mounted on the front. You can see them flanking the keyboard, while the base bears a white Dolby Atmos logo.

Despite the portability, the laptop is able to deliver a wide port selection. This includes two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI 2.0 port, a MicroSD card reader, a LAN port, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.
