Design
The two EliteBooks come with an aluminum chassis. Compared to the EliteBook 600-series and ProBooks, we now have rounded edges, which don’t necessarily help with grip or anything, but it makes the laptops appear slimmer, as well as not having your wrist chafe against a sharp edge. Both laptops are pretty portable, even the 16-inch EliteBook 860. The smaller laptop does lack the NumPad, but it still offers the fingerprint reader. Both laptops come with an FHD webcam, as well as a privacy shutter, and an IR sensor, which allows for facial recognition for a faster and more secure login.

The port selection offers two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, which bring Power Delivery and DisplayPort support, an HDMI 2.1, and a 3.5 mm audio jack. Some optional ports include a SIM card slot and a SmartCard reader, which can be important for some consumers, so we welcome the addition.
Display
Both laptops have a Full HD+ IPS panel for their base configurations, with 250 nits of brightness and covering around half of the sRGB gamut. There is also a version with either 400 or 1000 nits of brightness, as well as 100% sRGB coverage. The EliteBook 840 G10 also has a QHD+ IPS display with 500 nits of brightness and 100% sRGB coverage.
Specifications and features
In terms of specs, the laptops have Raptor Lake U-series and P-series. The configurations kick off with the Core i5-1335U, which is pretty similar to last year’s Core i5-1235U, with the same 10-core 12-thread layout. The rest of the U-series chips include the Core i5-1345U, the Core i7-1355U, and the Core i7-1365U. Going to the P-series, you can choose between the Core i5-1340P, the Core i5-1350P, the Core i7-1360P, and the Core i7-1370P. For graphics, you rely on integrated graphics, which can be good enough for video rendering and other work. Both laptops have good upgradeability, with two SODIMM slots for up to 64GB of DDR5 memory, and one M.2 slot for Gen 4 SSDs.
