The 2024 Dell and Alienware Gaming Laptops Lineup: The Complete Guide!
Alienware and Dell’s gaming lineup of laptops for 2024 is simple, concise, and easy to understand. We really like this, as there’s a clear separation between the more affordable Dell models and the Alienware devices, so you know where to go. If you want an inexpensive laptop that can get really powerful, you go for the Dell G15 and G16, while if you want the best that Dell has to offer, you go for the Alienware laptops, which have more variety when it comes to designs, screen sizes, and features.
Dell’s gaming laptops are usually quite bulky, which will sway away consumers who want a more portable laptop, however, the cooling inside them has never disappointed and always delivers high clock speeds and low temperatures, pushing the hardware inside to the max. On the other hand, the Alienware x14 is the thinnest 14-inch gaming laptop out there, so there is variety if you’re willing to pay for it.

Alienware m18 R2
The m18 R2 is the most powerful laptop that Alienware offers, with Intel’s 14th Gen HX-series processors, RTX 40-series graphics that go up to 175W, and a great selection of displays. The m18 had a lengthy stay in our lab, and you can check the whole review down below. To give you a short teaser, the m18 R2 crushed every single test, delivering so much performance. Its treatment of the GPU is fantastic, delivering high power limits and more performance than any competitor. On the inside, there are four fans, while the more powerful models (aka the 4080 and 4090 configurations) are equipped with a vapor chamber.
For a laptop that costs north of 2 grand and more the higher on the specs sheet you go, the aluminum and plastic construction is a bit underwhelming. However, we get why Alienware used some plastic, as this is a beefy notebook with the weight and profile to match. The laptop weighs 9.3 lbs (4.23 kg) and has a profile of 0.95″ (24.10 – 25.10 mm). Also, for any esports player who wants the smoothest and most responsive screen, the Alienware m18 R2 comes with a Full HD+ 480Hz screen.

Alienware m18 R2 in-depth review
The Alienware m18 R2 is another 18-incher that offers high-end hardware. Expectedly, we are talking about 14th gen Intel Raptor Lake-HX CPU options and GeForce RTX 4000 graphics cards with hefty TGPs. Wealthy enthusiasts could have fun with the 175W RTX 4090 or 4080. Still, if you don't need so much graphics power, the other video cards rely on 140W power limits which is more than enough for the AD107 and AD106 chips. Interestingly, the laptops with the top-tier GPUs have vapor chamber cooling, preapplied Element 31 liquid metal on the CPU and GPU, and two more M.2 slots. If you want these goo[...]
Pros
- Solid premium build
- Thin profile for such a form factor
- Capable thermal system
- Stable and high CPU and GPU frequencies under any kind of load
- Wide viewing angles (BOE HF1FV-NE18NZ1 (BOE0AFB; NE180QDM-NZ1))
- Snappy pixel response times (BOE HF1FV-NE18NZ1 (BOE0AFB; NE180QDM-NZ1))
- PWM-free (BOE HF1FV-NE18NZ1 (BOE0AFB; NE180QDM-NZ1))
- 98% sRGB coverage + accurate colors with our "Design and Gaming" profile (BOE HF1FV-NE18NZ1 (BOE0AFB; NE180QDM-NZ1))
- 2x SODIMM slots
- Comfortable per-key keyboard and touchpad
- Offers plenty of ports
- The fans aren't that loud in "Overdrive" mode
- Low noise and a 115W GPU TGP in "Quiet" mode
- Good battery battery life given the 1600p display and the powerful hardware
- The Alienware Command Center app is full of useful extras such as CPU undervolt
- Offers NVIDIA Advanced Optimus, G-Sync + MUX switch
Cons
- High price
- Heavy
- Only the RTX 4080 / 4090-based machines have four M.2 slots and a vapor chamber cooling
- Too many Gen 1 ports + the Thunderbolts connectors support just a 15W charging
- For such a pricey laptop, the 1600p display should offer better contrast ratio and max brightness
Alienware m16 R2
Alienware would want you to believe that the m16 R2 is the same as the m18 R2, but smaller. However, this is decently further from the truth. First of all, the CPU options are different, as the 14th Gen HX-series processors have been swapped for the Core Ultra series of processors. You can choose between the Core Ultra 9 185H and an Ultra 7 155H. The latter chip has a base TDP of 28W, so not exactly the pinnacle of performance. However, with good cooling, it can raise its power limit and clock speeds by a lot, and the cooling inside the m16 is known to be very good, so you can expect really good performance.
Unfortunately, the TGPs on the GPUs haven’t been specified, however, we expect at least 140W on the RTX 4050, 4060, and 4070 graphics, otherwise, the whole premise of the notebook really just falls apart. It’s got a more classic screen that really fits the 16-inch form factor, a 16:10 Quad HD+ IPS panel with a 240Hz refresh rate.

Alienware m16 R2 in-depth review
These days, 16-inchers are on the rise and some of them (like the ASUS G634 or MSI Vector 16 HX A13V) offer the same performance as their 18-inch versions. The Alienware m16 R2 is the smaller variant of the behemoth-looking Alienware m18 R2. The latter offers great overall power and comfort under load. It'll be interesting to see if the m16 R2 can achieve the same result. For starters, this laptop relies on 28W Intel Meteor Lake chips while the bigger version has Raptor Lake-HX CPU options that are definitely more powerful and thirsty at the same time. Alienware has fitter a big thermal sys[...]

Alienware x16 R2
The newest addition to the Alienware laptop family is the X-series, made to deliver the best possible performance in the most compact form factors possible. The Alienware x16 R2 is only 0.73″ (18.57 mm) thin and with a weight of 5.9 lbs (2.66 kg). For these dimensions, it packs the same CPU options as the m16, while offering a lot more powerful graphics, with up to an RTX 4090.
There are also very capable displays, with either a Full HD+ 480Hz panel or a Quad HD+ 240Hz panel. The lighting on the laptop has been increased too, with RGB strips surrounding the whole back end, the Alienware logo, the keyboard, and even the touchpad (the RGB pad is available only on RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 configurations).

Alienware x16 R2 in-depth review
There is a high demand for thin laptops in every price class. Nowadays, many users want to own a compact and powerful laptop. Alienware has tried to make one, with their x16 R2 model. This is an incredibly thin and unique-looking machine and you can also order it with up to GeForce RTX 4090.But there's a nuance. Since the 13th and 14th Gen Raptor Lake-H and HX CPUs dissipate tons of heat they aren't suitable for such a slim profile. That's why this notebook can be found with Meteor Lake-H processors. These efficient chips are a preferable choice for slim notebooks. You can choose between a[...]

Alienware x14 R2
The smaller version of the X16, the X14 is the lightest and thinnest Alienware gaming laptop, weighing only 4.2 lbs (1.91 kg) and having a profile of 0.57″ (14.50 mm). It is a bit heavy for a 14-inch machine, however, there is a reason for all the heft. The laptop has decent CPUs to choose from, either the Core i5-13420H or the Core i7-13620H, which are 8-core and 10-core CPUs that fit smaller notebooks like this one perfectly, as cooling capacity and space is more limited.
The GPU selection goes as high as the RTX 4060, along with a more modest Quad HD+ 165Hz display. The RTX 4060 will do well at 1440p, but we’re not so sure about the RTX 4050 or 3050 that are offered.

Dell G16 7630
Going to the parent company, Dell makes the G-series which are more affordable laptops targeting the masses. The G16 is the biggest and most powerful of them, sitting well into the mid-range, with powerful processors and graphics. The latest model, the G16 7630 has the Intel 13th Gen HX-series and the RTX 40-series, with the top configuration reaching the Core i9-13900HX and the 140W RTX 4070. The QHD+ 165Hz or 240Hz panels are good to see here, providing extra detail that the GPU can absolutely handle.
The two displays are absolutely brilliant too, offering wide color gamut coverage, as well as accurate colors. This makes them valuable for a lot of creators who need the performance and the colors for their work. What’s weird about the laptop is that some features, mainly the Thunderbolt 4 support are preserved only for the RTX 4070 configurations.

Dell G16 7630 in-depth review
We can't put Dell and the word "gaming" in one sentence without thinking about Alienware. Today, we are not going to review an Alienware notebook, but we are definitely going to get the closest we can't get to that.Yes, we are talking about the Dell G16 7630. It is one of the company's best gaming options currently on the market. Of course, we are yet to decide if it is any good, or the title "best from Dell" wouldn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things.Anyways, the American company has chosen to give you some of the best processors on the market for this particular machine. Dell G15 5530
The most affordable of Dell’s gaming laptops, the G15 is decently popular, we’ve seen them in college campuses, cafes, and wherever else students gather. The low price paired with the good performance makes it a good option for engineers, programmers, and designers (the display does cover 90% of the sRGB gamut and achieves great accuracy). Dell’s G-series has a unique look, with lots of angles and in recent years has started to experiment with color quite a bit, offering Purple and White colors to the traditional Grey and Black.
Overall it’s a great laptop that has its shortcomings, mainly the bulky chassis that’s pretty heavy for a 15.6-inch machine. However the laptop is really well built, so if that’s all the major faults with it, it means that Dell have gotten a lot of stuff right, like the performance, which at the end of the day is the most important for budget machines.

Dell G15 5530 in-depth review
While it has plenty of knowledge from its Alienware brand, Dell insists to make its G-series gaming notebooks its own way. With compromises and at least one thing that makes absolutely no sense. For the past couple of years, this particular feature is the weight. In a world where gaming laptops are getting progressively lighter and thinner, Dell makes machines that simulate a shoulder workout in less than 15 minutes.Nevertheless, all of this might be for a reason, because we have noticed that the manufacturer has equipped its G15 5530 with a 140W RTX 4050. Yet again, the RTX 4000 GPU l[...]

Dell G15 5535
The G15 is offered in an AMD variant, with the Ryzen 5 7640 HS or the Ryzen 7 7840HS instead of the 13th Gen Intel H-series and HX-series processors. If it were buying a G15 5535, we wouldn’t bother with the Ryzen 5 processor, it’s only got 6 cores which doesn’t feel like enough in 2024.
The Ryzen 7 7840HS has shown to be both a powerful and efficient chip, so the battery life can be a lot better. Currently, it holds the #30 spot in our Top Laptop CPU Ranking, above the Core i7-13700H and Core i9-12900HK. The rest of the laptop is the same, from the display selection to the GPU options.

By far the most compact series of laptops, Dell offers devices that are clearly divided into tiers, so it’s very easy to know what to go for depending on your budget and needs. The G15 and G16 devices come with a lot of power under the hood, as well as competent cooling and great displays, while the Alienware X-series and M-series elevate things to another level, with superb designs, even better cooling, and wider hardware selection. Don’t even get us started with the 480Hz screens that they have, which are the fastest found on laptops.
