Lenovo ThinkPad T15g – what we know about the Lenovo ThinkPad gaming beast / workstation hybrid

Lenovo’s Thinkpad has been one of the most iconic lineups of laptops. Chances are you either owned one or you know someone who has one. And they are well known for a good reason. Not only do they perform spectacularly for their price range but they also last a very long time.

Recently, an official PDF sheet with specifications confirmed the existence of ThinkPad T15g. This new addition to the family is rumored to be the “gaming” version of ThinkPad and according to the specs sheet, this is the truth.

More detailed specs here: Lenovo ThinkPad T15g

According to Lenovo’s site, the new ThinkPad T15g has a wide variety of options in all areas. In terms of the GPU, the laptop comes either with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 or 2080 Max-Q. Both of these GPUs are good options for laptops because they provide great performance and are the perfect choice if you want to play games.

In the CPU department, Lenovo offers a wide variety of Intel options starting with Core i5-10400H and going all the way till Core i9-10980HK. It is interesting that Lenovo also offers two options with Xeon chips.

Usually, Xeon CPUs are used for workstations because of their high core count and more cache. Furthermore, the Xeon processors have longer life which is always a plus for the general user. The two options are Xeon W-10855M and Xeon W-10885M.

For the display, there are four options in total. Two of the screen options are with Full HD panels while the other two support 4K resolution. One of the Full HD versions of the display supports Dolby Vision while both of the 4K versions support it.

Again, it is interesting to point out that one of the 4K options has an OLED touchscreen which is uncommon for a gaming laptop due to the pricing of the panels. What makes OLED screen great is that they provide better image quality than LED screens, with less energy usage. Additionally, all of the panels are anti-glare with the touchscreen one, also being anti-smudge.

The Lenovo ThinkPad T15g also supports RAM all the way up to 64GB so it is ready for multitasking. Moreover, the touchscreen version also comes equipped with a Lenovo Pen Pro.

Generally speaking, we are excited to see what Lenovo brings to the table with the gaming Thinkpad and how it is going to compare to similar gaming laptops and most importantly if it’s going to live to the name of ThinkPad.

Well I have had mine for the last week and it is so far a hell of a piece of equipment. It is the i7 processor with a single 16GB and the RTX2080 graphics with the 4K oled touch display. I also have the WAN card installed. The performance the machine is stunning to be honest and my desktop is a maxed out water cooled HP Z800 workstation. The camera performance is very good and the audio is passable. The mic array works very well as well. The build quality is great too.
