MORE RAM for All M4 Macs: M4 MacBooks To Come With 12GB of Memory At Least?
MacBooks for a long time have offered 8GB as the base capacity, from which you have to often pay a hefty sum to upgrade to 12GB or 16GB, or even more. So far the only officially announced and sold M4-powered device is the new iPad Pro (2024).
The folks over at iFixit have already taken it upon themselves to tear it down, as that’s their job. What they found inside was very interesting, to say the least. Below you can see the photo of the mainboard of the M4-powered iPad Pro. In the middle (RED), sits the M4 chip. Placed above them (BLUE) are two Micron 6GB LPDDR5x SDRAM chips.

With this new interesting information, analyst Vadim Yuryev has made an educated guess about the memory offerings of the new M4-powered Mac devices:
M4: 12GB base or 24GB
M4 Pro: 18GB standard or 36GB
Base M4 Max: 36GB or 96GB
Upgraded M4 Max: 48GB or 64GB or 128GB
M4 Ultra: 96GB or 192GB or 256GB
With the 12GB of Unified Memory under the hood, the MacBook Air and base MacBook Pro can now be even better and smoother running machines. Hopefully, Apple doesn’t increase the prices of the M4 Macs by a lot to compensate for giving us extra RAM, but knowing how they’ve been operating, it won’t be a big surprise if they do go out of their way to hike the prices a bit more than the usual.
