The HP Pavilion Aero 13 (13-bg0000) Reaches “Perfect” Color Accuracy Using Our Display Profiles
The HP Pavilion Aero 13 is a true example of the progress laptops have made in the last couple of years. We bought one for a review, outfitted with a Ryzen 7 8840U. We were shocked to find that the Ryzen 7 8840HS was also available, sporting a 45W base TDP. There’s also a Radeon 780M iGPU, which has shown to be a formidable GPU for gaming. While the performance of the notebook is great, we’re here to tell you just how good the display is.
HP Pavilion Aero 13 (13-bg0000): Full Specs / In-depth Review
Display quality
The panel of the Pavilion covers 98% of the sRGB gamut as well as 80% of the DCI-P3 gamut, which means vibrant and punchy colors. On top of all the colors, the panel is super sharp, as it has a QHD+ resolution at a 13-inch form factor, resulting in a pixel density of 227 PPI, just like a MacBook. Moreover, it reaches a peak brightness of 443 nits, so outdoor use is great. You can find more about the display in our review.
Now, we move to the color accuracy. We measure it in dE, the difference between the real-life colors and how they appear on screen. The lower the dE value, the closer the display colors appear to the real ones. With the stock settings, the HP Pavilion Aero 13 gets a dE value of 2.6. Once we apply our Web Design and Office Work profile, the dE value drops to 0.8, which means that now the Pavilion is ready for all sorts of professional color work, like graphic design, photo editing, publishing work, and printed media.

Office Work
Office Work should be used mostly by users who spend most of the time looking at pieces of text, tables or just surfing. This profile aims to deliver better distinctness and clarity by keeping a flat gamma curve (2.20), native color temperature and perceptually accurate colors.
Design and Gaming
This profile is aimed at designers who work with colors professionally, and for games and movies as well. Design and Gaming takes display panels to their limits, making them as accurate as possible in the sRGB IEC61966-2-1 standard for Web and HDTV, at white point D65.
Health-Guard
Health-Guard eliminates the harmful Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) and reduces the negative Blue Light which affects our eyes and body. Since it’s custom tailored for every panel, it manages to keep the colors perceptually accurate. Health-Guard simulates paper so the pressure on the eyes is greatly reduced.

HP Pavilion Aero 13 (13z-bg0000) in-depth review
It's almost unbelievable that an ultra-light laptop such as the HP Pavilion Aero 13 (13-bg0000) is powered by snappy Zen 4 CPUs with up to 8 cores and 45W default TDP. We decided to buy a machine with a 28W AMD Ryzen 7 8840U which will not stress the cooling system as much as the Ryzen 7 8840HS. The razor-thin profile comes at the cost of some missing functionalities such as a lack of SODIMMs and just one storage slot. Still, the port selection looks great for a 13-incher and you can easily open the bottom panel for servicing. The display department is represented by two IPS panels - one 12[...]
