ASUS Vivobook 15 OLED (X1505) review – when your display is doing the heavy lifting

Design and construction

This is an all-plastic notebook that weighs 1.70 kg and has a profile of 19.9mm. It is not very rigid, as both the lid and the body are susceptible to flex when you twist them. On the other hand, the plastic material doesn’t feel bad to the touch.

Yes, fingerprints stick to it as flies to honey, but the laptop comes with special treatment. Its plastics feature the ASUS Antibacterial Guard. Its purpose is to prevent and limit the build-up of microbes on your notebook, which as you know, is a very personal piece of equipment.

Here, the lid cannot be opened with one hand. However, it hides thin top and side bezels, with the former housing an HD Web camera with a privacy shutter above it.

Moving to the keyboard, we can see a backlit unit with a NumberPad and pretty large keycaps. Well, with the exception of the Arrow buttons, which are a bit too small. On the bright side, the keyboard has long key travel and clicky feedback, which makes the experience pretty comfortable.

In addition, the touchpad is also nice. It has a large area and a pretty accurate response. Also, we have to note that the clicking mechanism works throughout the entire surface area, but it is a bit difficult to press around the top edge.

Now, the bottom panel houses the speaker cutouts, as well as a ventilation grill. Hot air, respectively, escapes through two vents – one on the back, and one on the left side of the machine.

Ports

On the left side, you will find a single USB Type-A 2.0 port. Then, on the right, you get the charging plug, an HDMI 1.4 connector, two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, a USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 1) port for data transfer only, and an Audio jack.
