Dell Precision 14 5470 review – the most compact workstation on the market right now
Temperatures and comfort, Battery Life
Max CPU load
In this test we use 100% on the CPU cores, monitoring their frequencies and chip temperature. The first column shows a computer’s reaction to a short load (2-10 seconds), the second column simulates a serious task (between 15 and 30 seconds), and the third column is a good indicator of how good the laptop is for long loads such as video rendering.
Average P-core frequency; Average E-core frequency; CPU temp.; Package Power

It comes as no surprise that the tiny Dell Precision 14 5470 struggles to handle the Core i7-12800H. However, what is impressive in our opinion, is the fact that it still manages to sustain a higher power limit in long extreme loads, than the default 45W TDP.
Real-life gaming
NVIDIA RTX A1000 | GPU frequency/ Core temp (after 2 min) | GPU frequency/ Core temp (after 30 min) |
---|---|---|
Dell Precision 14 5470 | 1138 MHz @ 73°C @ 35W | 1154 MHz @ 72°C @ 35W |
Dell Precision 16 7670 | 1658 MHz @ 79°C @ 72W | 1652 MHz @ 80°C @ 72W |
Perhaps a little disappointing is the fact that the RTX A1000 inside this machine can’t reach its 40W TGP. Even though its cooling can definitely handle more abuse. The most probable reason behind that is comfort.
Comfort during combined load
Thus we get to this section of the review. Yes, the laptop produces a lot of noise during a combined workload (such as gaming). However, it is definitely not too loud. The 40-something°C it reaches in the middle of its keyboard is not a reason for concern, but you will definitely feel some heat under your fingers.
Battery
Now, we conduct the battery tests with the Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with. This machine’s 72Wh battery pack lasts for 10 hours and 25 minutes of either Web browsing, or video playback.
In order to simulate real-life conditions, we used our own script for automatic web browsing through over 70 websites.

For every test like this, we use the same video in HD.
