HP EliteBook 1040 G9 review – great build quality and a lot of features

    Verdict

To summarize, from our time with the HP EliteBook 1040 G9, we learned that it is a very good business notebook. It has a ton of security features, as well as optional 5G support. This means you can work from pretty much anywhere in the world.

This is also possible thanks to the decent battery life – we got about 14 hours of Web browsing or 10 hours of video playback on a single charge. It features a 65W USB Type-C power adapter. Provided you’re not with an iPhone, you can charge at least two of your mobile devices with one charger (one at a time).

In addition, the machine provides two Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI 2.0 connector, two regularly-sized USBs, and a Smart Card reader.

HP EliteBook 1040 G9’s IPS panel has a WUXGA resolution, comfortable viewing angles, and a very good contrast ratio. It covers 99% of the sRGB color gamut, which results in a fairly attractive image to look at.

Moreover, our Gaming and Web design profile helps the display produce accurate-enough colors, so it can be used for color-sensitive content. Thankfully, the panel doesn’t use PWM for brightness adjustment. However, its pixel response times are a bit slow, which results in a not very smooth user experience.

What is impressive here is the fact that there are two SODIMM slots for memory expansion. This is a rare feature in the business world, and we are really appreciating that HP has remained true to traditions in this case.

Now, as we expected, the long-run performance of this machine is hindered by HP’s “keep it quiet” policy of its business notebooks. On the bright side, the laptop runs its Core i7-1255U at quite high clocks when it comes to short and medium-long loads – basically 99% of the functionality of this particular device.

At the end of the day, the HP EliteBook 1040 G9 is an exquisite business product. By getting it, you will receive one of the best typing experiences on the market, combined with spill resistance – it is worth it!
