Lenovo IdeaPad 1 (15″, 2023) review – affordable and pretty efficient

Design and construction

Expectedly, the entire laptop is made out of plastic. Both the lid and the base have the structural integrity of a slice of provolone cheese heated in a frying pan. In addition to that, the material is extremely prone to smudges and fingerprints, which makes it a nightmare for hypochondriacs.

On the other hand, the profile of 17.9mm and weight of 1.58 kg pretty much means that the machine is extremely portable. In reality, this seems to be the case too.

Here, the lid cannot be opened with one hand. Not only that, but the hinges are very unstable, which makes the lid move after even the slightest of bumps. However, the bezels around the matte display are pretty thin, which is good. Moreover, the HD Web camera has a privacy shutter on top.

Moving to the base, we see the power button, which is separated from the rest of the keyboard. It houses an optional fingerprint reader, which is pretty exquisite for this price range. As for the keyboard, it is a unit without a backlight, but with a NumberPad section. The key travel is a bit short, but the feedback is pretty clicky.

We were surprised by the response rate of the touchpad. Its 69 by 104 mm size is good for this class, while the material on top is Mylar. We have to mention the fact that the area between the keyboard and the touchpad is very bendy when you press it.

Not, turn the laptop upside down, to see the two speaker cutouts and the ventilation grill. Hot air, on the other hand, gets exhausted through a vent on the back of the base.

Ports

On the left side, there is the power plug, a USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, an HDMI 1.4b connector, a USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 1) port for data transfer only, and an Audio jack. Then, on the right, you get a USB Type-A 2.0 port, and an SD card reader.
