Lenovo Yoga 9i (14, Gen 9) review – fast, solid, and beautiful

Verdict

The Lenovo Yoga 9i (14″, Gen 9) is a well-tuned 2-in-1 laptop. Its good cooling with two fans allows decently high CPU clocks even when the Team Blue chip is loaded at max. In this scenario, the temperatures are also under control while the fan can be too noisy for some users. Still, if you don’t need the full power of the Meteor Lake processor, the “Intelligent Cooling” or the “Battery Saving” modes are the way to go if you want to hear less noise. We want to praise once again the Intel Arc (8-Cores) iGPU. When the latter is paired with fast RAM (like the soldered LPDDR5x-7467 MHz memory of this gadget) it can achieve some impressive scores for an integrated solution. For example, it can show 85 FPS in Dota 2 on High settings which could be overwhelming even for some low-end dedicated graphics.

The 2.8K OLED panel (LEN140WQ (LEN8ABA)) is almost perfect. It sports a 120Hz refresh rate, super-fast pixel response times (1.2 ms, wow!), and full DCI-P3 coverage. The color accuracy can be additionally enhanced to an average dE value of just 1.4 with the aid of our “Design and Gaming” profile. The only downside of the panel is the PWM usage. At least the pulsations are weaker above 70 nits. Still, our Health-Guard profile can be a lifesaver if you plan to use this laptop for long hours of work.

The aluminum build is solid and feels premium. We also like the thin bezels around the lid that has a glass protection. The input devices are comfortable for usage and the star of the show is the smooth and large touchpad which is a rare find when it comes to such a compact form factor.

The battery life is long enough for a day and a half away from the charger – more than 12 hours of Web browsing is a great result considering the high-res OLED panel and the Meteor Lake-H processor. The laptop offers quality sound and a modern I/O with two Thunderbolt 4 ports.

At the end of the day, we can conclude that the Lenovo Yoga 9i (14″, Gen 9) is a solid 2-in-1 transformer that boasts good cooling, great build quality, comfortable input devices, and a long-lasting battery.
