[Comparison] Intel Core i5-1135G7 vs Intel Core i7-1065G7 – it’s a close battle, but the new i5 impresses with its performance

Today we have a comparison between two CPUs from two different price points. One is the newest addition to the Tiger Lake family, the Intel Core i5-1135G7, which promises improvements both in the CPU and GPU front.

Well today we are here to test that versus one very well estabilished processor that already provides great performance and we are sure that it will push this new Core i5 to its limits. The processor that we are talking about is of course the Core i7-1065G7.

Here is our Top Laptop CPU Ranking, where you can check how both chips stack up against the competition.

You can find out more information about both CPUs here: Intel Core i5-1135G7 / Intel Core i7-1065G7

CPU Benchmarks

Starting off with the first CPU test, Cinebench 15, here we saw the older Core i7-1065G7 take the win with a lead of 1.4%, which while might not be felt is still there. As for the Photoshop benchmark, here the new Tiger Lake chip was faster by 0.4 seconds.

Results are from the Cinebench 20 CPU test (the higher the score, the better)

Results are from our Photoshop benchmark test (the lower the score, the better)

GPU Benchmarks

Moving over to the GPU tests here the results were really close as well. The Iris Plus Graphics G7 scored an only win in our first test, which is 3DMark Fire Strike, scoring 7% higher. As for the rest, the new Iris Xe Graphics G7, managed to perform 4% better in Unigine Heaven 4.0 and 28% better in Unigine Superposition.

Results are from the 3DMark: Time Spy (Graphics) benchmark (higher the score, the better)

Results are from the 3DMark: Fire Strike (Graphics) benchmark (higher the score, the better)

Results are from the Unigine Superposition benchmark (higher the score, the better)

Conclusion

To summarize this comparison, the newer Core i5-1135G7 was better in our CPU tests, scoring 1.4% higher in 3D rendering, and was 0.4 seconds faster in Photoshop. As for the graphics comparison, here the Iris Xe Graphics G7 won in two out of the three benchmarks. If you need a winner, there isn’t one, since both chips are only one year apart and their performance is quite similar, but the Core i5 really impressed us with its performance today.
