[Comparison] Intel Core i5-12500H vs AMD Ryzen 7 5800H – victorious journey for the Core i5

Intel has made such a big jump in performance with their Alder Lake architecture, that nowadays, their latest Core i5 CPUs can challenge the Ryzen 7s of the past.

Today we have one such comparison, between the Core i5-12500H, which honestly feels like a supercharged Core i5 CPU, with 12 cores and 16 threads. To try and stop its wake of terror, we have the Ryzen 7 5800H, which was last year’s best CPU, presenting great value, flagship performance, and unwarranted efficiency for a 45W processor.

Today we are comparing the Intel Core i5-12500H against the AMD Ryzen 7 5800H.

    CPU benchmarks

Not a single last-gen CPU looks to be enough to stop the Core i5-12500H, which is 10% quicker in Cinebench 20 and has a sizeable lead of 1 second in Photoshop.

Results are from the Cinebench R23 CPU test (the higher the score, the better)

    Conclusion

The Core i5-12500H really is an outlier, coming with much higher specs than we would expect from a Core i5 CPU, enabling its raw performance. Right now, however, both CPUs offer really good value, with the Ryzen 7 especially, since prices of laptops with it go down. You can get a well-equipped laptop for Gaming and Content Creation, despite a last-gen chip, for a really good price.
