Design

HP’s budget laptops all look relatively similar, which is all fine with us, reusing the same chassis can lead to overall cost savings on multiple devices, which translates to lower prices for the consumer. The HP 15 has a fully-plastic chassis with some recycled plastic bits. It comes in several colors, including an all-black color, which HP calls Jet Black. Below are all the available colors of the HP 15 and we’re really happy to see such diversification of looks, which makes the consumer even happier. Display

The laptop is offered with three displays in total. The base configuration comes with a TN display with a resolution of 1366 x 768p, as well as 250 nits of brightness. If you want more pixels, there’s a Full HD IPS panel with the same brightness and around 50% sRGB coverage. Lastly, there’s another Full HD IPS panel, this time with 300 nits of peak brightness and 100% sRGB coverage, so if you’re gunning for a budget laptop for graphic design or photo editing, this is where you’ve got to look.

Specifications and features

The laptop offers a wide selection of processors to choose from. We start off with the Zen 2 units, like the Athlon Silver 7120U, with 2 cores and 2 threads, and the Athlon Gold 7220U, with 2 cores and 4 threads. Then we have the Ryzen 3 7320U and Ryzen 5 7520U, both with 4 cores and 8 threads. Finally, the Zen 3 range kicks off with the Ryzen 5 7530U and the Ryzen 7 7730U, the latter of which poses some serious competition to Intel and its own U-series processors. All Zen 2 chips have the Radeon 610M iGPU, which has just 2 cores and doesn’t offer a lot of performance if you try to play games on it. On the other hand, the Zen 3 Ryzen 5, and Ryzen 7 have the older Vega graphics, with the RX Vega 7 for the Ryzen 5 and the RX Vega 8 for the Ryzen 7. The port selection of the laptop could be better, but still, you’re getting the basics, like two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, a USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 1), an HDMI 1.4b connector, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.
