ASUS ROG Strix G17 G713P (2023) review – everything could be perfect if it isn’t for one thing
Verdict
Well, we can consider the experiment to be successful. And a major failure, at the same time. Why failure, though? How can something have both a positive, and a negative outcome at the same time?
Firstly, the performance of this beast was fantastic. The new chips do a fine job in sustaining high clock speeds, while at the same time, they are not too difficult to cool down. We have to mention the fact that the ROG Strix G17 G713P (2023) features a liquid metal thermal compound on the CPU, which is definitely helping.
Overall, the cooling is good, as is the comfort during gaming – both in terms of heat and noise. In the grand scheme of things, this is one very good laptop for playing all the games you want.
ASUS ROG Strix G17 G713P (2023)’s IPS panel has a QHD resolution with a 240Hz refresh rate. As you can tell, this is one top-of-the-line product. It comes with comfortable viewing angles and a good contrast ratio. Furthermore, it covers 95% of the DCI-P3 color gamut.
With the help of our Gaming and Web design profile, the color accuracy is great, while the pixel-response times of the panel are blazingly quick. The latter means that you can enjoy a super smooth image when playing games in a dynamic environment. On top of that, the display doesn’t use PWM for brightness adjustment, which makes the panel pretty comfortable for long periods of use.
However, it is time to say why the experiment was not successful – because of the horrific battery life. This machine has brought us straight back to pre-2015 years when gaming laptops had about 4 milliseconds of battery life. Well, in the case of this device, it is up to 4 hours and a half of very light Web browsing.
Also, the ROG Strix G17 G713P (2023) lacks an SD card reader and a Thunderbolt 4 port, the last of which is compensated by two USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) ports. By the way, it is interesting that this ROG Strix device is not as well-equipped as the TUF Gaming A17 (FA707, 2023), one of whose ports is a USB4.
Nevertheless, the laptop is worth every penny if you are going to use it only for gaming (or other heavy-duty workload). Also, you should definitely not trust the battery – ever. Take a charger with you even when you go to sleep without the laptop itself.

I would say that the biggest “Con” is that it doesn’t come with USB4 or even Thunderbolt-4. These cannot be easily installed as an upgrade. But also there is the fact that they’re trying to pass this off as a Mid Tier gaming rig but it’s actually only a little better than the RTX4060 which has the same amount of VRAM for less money (8gb). You should NOT buy a gaming computer with less than 12GB of VRAM today. Honestly if you can’t afford the 4080 then you’d do fine with a 4060.
