ASUS TUF Gaming A17 (FA707, 2023) review – nearly 5.00 GHz on all cores during full load

Design and construction

Like the 15-inch Intel model, this one doesn’t really show any significant design change from last year. However, this is not necessarily a bad thing, as the device only weighs 2.60 kg (which is very little for a 17-inch gaming laptop).

Moreover, it has a profile of 22.9-25.4mm and is made out of a mix between plastic and metal. Well, the latter is the lid, which uses aluminum for its cover. Nevertheless, the entire notebook is pretty resistant to flex, although the surface area is rather large.

In addition, the lid can be opened with one hand. Its top, and side bezels are pretty thin, with the former incorporating a notch that houses the HD Web camera.

This notebook’s keyboard features a NumberPad, as well as a single-zone RGB backlight. The key travel is decent, and the feedback is clicky. The only negative comment we have about the keyboard itself is its small Arrow buttons.

Moving to the touchpad, we see one of the good units out there. It is super responsive, allows for very accurate tracking, and sports an incredibly smooth surface.

On the bottom panel, you will traditionally find the two speaker cutouts, as well as the ventilation grill. In this case, the hot air is being exhausted through two vents on the back, and one on each side of the laptop.

Ports

On the left side, you get the power plug, a LAN port, an HDMI 2.1 FRL connector, a USB4 port, followed by a USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) port with DisplayPort and Power Delivery capability plus G-Sync support. After that, there is a USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, and an Audio jack. And on the right side, respectively, there is a Kensington lock slot and a single USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port.
