ASUS TUF Gaming F15 (FX507, 2023) review – higher price but better performance

Design and construction

To make this laptop, ASUS used aluminum for the lid, and plastic for the rest of the body panels. However, you shouldn’t be worried about the structural integrity of the device, as its chassis is extremely resistant to flex (as is the lid to some extent).

In terms of dimensions, the machine has a profile of 22.4-24.9mm and weighs 2.20 kg. This is in line with other 15-inch gaming notebooks in this price range.

Thankfully, opening the lid with one hand is possible. Its hinges are fairly stable, while the top and side bezels are really thin. As you can see, the bottom one is quite substantial, while the top one features a notch, which makes gripping the lid easier, when you try to open it. Also, it houses the 720p Web camera.

Now, let’s take a look at the base. As you can see, it has a separate Power button, a vent, and a set of hotkeys above the main keyboard. Speaking of which, typing on the device is pretty comfortable, thanks to the decent key travel, and clicky feedback. You should keep in mind, that the Arrow keys are a bit small, and the RGB backlight has only one zone.

Further down below, there is the touchpad. It has the TUF logo printed in its top-right corner. The surface is really smooth, and the tracking is accurate. However, its clicking mechanism felt a bit weird, especially around the right-click area.

Next, let’s turn the laptop upside down, and observe the two speaker cutouts, as well as the ventilation grill. Hot air, respectively, gets exhausted through four vents – two on the back, and one on each side.

Ports

On the left side, there is the power plug, a LAN port, an HDMI 2.1 FRL connector, a Thunderbolt 4 port, followed by a USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) port with DisplayPort and Power Delivery capability plus G-Sync support. After that, there is a USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, and an Audio jack. The right side, respectively, is reserved for a Kensington lock slot, and a single USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port.
