Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 (14, Gen 8) review – solid 2-in-1 laptop that isn’t pricey

Disassembly, Upgrade options, and Maintenance

To remove the bottom plate, you have to uno 9 Torx-head screws. Then, you can detach the panel with a plastic tool.

The battery has a capacity of 52.5Wh. As expected, first, you have to pull out the battery connector from the motherboard. After that, you have to undo the 3 Philips-head screws that are keeping the battery in place. The capacity of the unit is enough for 11 hours and 7 minutes of either Web browsing or video playback.

The memory is soldered to the motherboard. The maximum possible amount of RAM is 16 gigabytes of LPDDR4X-4266 memory in a dual-channel mode. For storage, there is a single M.2 slot compatible with the shorter 2242 Gen. 4 SSDs. However, due to AMD platform limitations, the slot speed is downgraded to Gen. 3 values. The NVMe here is protected by a metal shroud that has a cooling pad on the inside which is good.

The cooling system looks standard for such a device. It has one fan and two heat pipes.
