Lenovo Legion Pro 7 (16″, 2023) review – it receives the 175W RTX 4000 treatment too

Well, 2023 aspires to be a year, where everyone goes all in. NVIDIA released a crazy fast roster of graphics cards, which reach extremely high power targets. Now, manufacturers seem to have no fear to implement them in various form factors.

Today, we’re going to have a look at the Lenovo Legion Pro 7 (16″, 2023). This is a new addition to the Legion family and currently occupies the top spot for premiumness and awesomeness from the brand.

As such, the expectations are set really high. Furthermore, its spec sheet is impressive enough to scare everyone who thinks powerful laptops need to be thick and heavy.

Quite impressively Lenovo managed to pull a Core i9-13900HX and an RTX 4080/4090 with 175W TGP inside a chassis that is rather portable, to say the least. Not in last place, there is a MUX switch, which lets the dedicated GPU communicate directly with the 240Hz 1600p IPS display.

By the way, there is only one screen option, and it supports Dolby Vision, DisplayHDR 400, G-Sync, AI, CGI, TDI, and TwinSpark. Jokes aside, this is a really impressive device, and we can’t wait to tell you more about it.

What’s in the box?

Besides the boring paperwork, you get a 330W power adapter, as well as a weird-looking entrapment. It houses a set of swappable keycaps and button mechanisms. They are not quite like the “analog” switches on the Acer Predator Helios 500, but it’s still something.

Apart from the obvious CPU, GPU, RAM upgrades, there are some features removed from the previous 2022 model:
no fingerprint reader, plastic keyboard & palm rest area vs aluminium, plastic touchpad vs glass, 1000Mbps vs 2500Mbps Ethernet, 1 vs 2 USB-C Thunderbolt port, more subtle RGB lighting + no LED for rear input ports

2.80 kg might seem like a lot, but considering the beastly hardware trapped inside this chassis, we feel it is kind of light. Thank you!! Finally a reviewer who understands to rate the weight and thickness of a laptop in context to its hardware! Personally would prefer an even slightly thicker chassis to get it quieter under load. The vapor chamber is very good but the fans look very shallow. The Alienware M16 has 3 fans and although it is pretty heavy at 3.3kg, this would be fine for me and I would instantly go for it, if it had… Read more »
