Lenovo Yoga 6 (13, Gen 8) review – compact 2-in-1 laptop that offers great comfort during any kind of load

    Design and construction

Just like many 2023 Lenovo laptops, this one features a design with rounded edges and minimal branding. The anodized finish feels good to the touch and the Dark teal color scheme makes the devices a bit stealthy-ish and more mature-looking. The lid is made of aluminum while the base is plastic. We bought the standard version of this machine. There is also a variant that has a fabric lid cover.

The metal version of this machine has a profile of 17.45 mm and the weight is 1.37 kilos. The fabric variant is slightly thinner and a bit heavier – 17.36 mm and 1.39 kg. Given the dimensions, the portability of this device is very good.

You can’t open the lid with a single hand and this is normal for the majority of the notebooks with transforming abilities because of the hinge stiffness. There is a slight hump on the upper bezel that contributes to better grip while opening the lid. The latter is almost unflexible thanks to the screen glass cover. As you can see, the bezels around the panel are thin.

Beneath the lid’s “hump” is positioned a 1080p Web camera with a privacy shutter.

Because of the smooth hinge mechanism, the device can be used as a normal clamshell machine or you can quickly transform it into a tablet.

You can also use the laptop in a tent mode or as a stand. The base is stable except for the upper left area of the right palm rest zone and the section between the Space key and the touchpad is kind of flexible. We can spot a pair of two front-firing 2w Dolby Atmos speakers placed on the sides of the keyboard. The latter is characterized by a decently long key travel and clicky feedback and that is nice considering the thin profile. The board has a backlight that glows in a white color. The fingerprint reader is placed under the Arrow keys (which remind us that the “Up” and “Down” ones are too small for our liking).

The touchpad is big enough for such a small laptop (75 x 120 mm). The glass surface is very smooth and this leads to great accuracy.

The bottom panel houses three rubber feet and a ventilation grill.

The hot air is exhausted through a vent positioned on the back of the base. So, if the display isn’t opened at 180 degrees (or if the device isn’t used in a tent or tablet mode) some amount of hot airflow will reach the lower part of the screen.

    Ports

The port selection is good for such a device. On the left, you can see two USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports (both come with Power Delivery 3.0 and DisplayPort 1.4 capabilities), an HDMI 2.1 (for up to 4K 60Hz external displays), and an Audio jack. On the right, we can spot a Power button, two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports (the latter supports the Always On functionality), and a microSD card reader.
