Lenovo Yoga Slim 6i (14, Gen 8, 14IAP8) review – thin and light machine with Alder Lake P-series CPU options

    Temperatures and comfort, Battery Life

    Max CPU load

In this test we use 100% on the CPU cores, monitoring their frequencies and chip temperature. The first column shows a computer’s reaction to a short load (2-10 seconds), the second column simulates a serious task (between 15 and 30 seconds), and the third column is a good indicator of how good the laptop is for long loads such as video rendering.

Now, a thin profile like the one here (14.9 mm) leads to some sacrifices (or at least in most cases). As you can see from the table above, this machine is tuned for a higher E cores clock while the P cores frequencies are rather low. On the bright side, the E cores can maintain 2.64 GHz in short loads and in prolonged periods of stress, the result is 1.92 GHz, which is the second best score among the laptops that we have tested with the same CPU. In this scenario, the temperatures are under control (71°C) and the power limit of the CPU is slightly above the official base value – 30W. In addition, the device feels very responsive during normal usage and we didn’t experience any “hiccups” during our testing.

    Comfort during full load

If you apply the “Extreme performance” preset (just like us), you can hear the fans if the CPU is stressed heavily. If not, the noise levels will be much lower. If you switch down to some of the other modes (“Intelligent Cooling” or “Battery Saving”) the two fans will spin at lower RPM. During heavy stress, you can feel some heat under your fingers but it’s okay for work. The two palm rest areas remain also cool enough for comfortable usage.

    Battery

Now, we conduct the battery tests with the Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with. Our configuration is equipped with a 65Wh battery pack. It got us through 9 hours and 5 minutes of Web browsing or 7 hours and 42 minutes of video playback. Given the capacity of the unit, the Alder Lake P processor, and the 1400p display, the result is good.

    Hi Lukas,
are you happy with the laptop? how are thermals, fans loudness, battery life? Do hinges feel stable?
    Thanks in advance
