MSI Pulse 15 (B13V) review – climbing up through the ranks

Design and construction

In contrast to MSI Katana 15 (B13V)’s all-plastic build, the Pulse 15 (B13V) features a metal lid. While this is a very small change, it has a positive impact on the appearance of the device, which now gives a more premium vibe.

In relation to dimensions, the laptop is 2.30 kg in weight and 26.9mm in thickness. Indeed, it is a bulky little devil, but we hope that MSI has used the space inside wisely. By the way, both the lid and the base have pretty good flex resistance.

Again, a focus of our talk, the lid opens easily with one hand. It goes all the way to a flat position, with its only sin being that it is a bit shaky. Other than that, the camera has an HD resolution and is located above the matte display.

Now, let’s check out the base. It features a 4-zone RGB backlit keyboard, which has a NumberPad and highlighted “WASD” and Arrow keys. The key travel is long, while the feedback is clicky.

We definitely like the feel of this keyboard for both gaming and typing. Although the touchpad looks like your 4-year-old kid has drawn over it, it is quite a useful little thing. We were amazed by its response, and the reason for that, in our view, is the super fast display.

Here, the speakers are placed on the bottom of the device. There, you will also find the ventilation grill. Hot air, on the other hand, escapes the laptop through two vents on the back, and one on the left side of the notebook.

Ports

On the left side, there is the power plug, a USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, and a USB Type-A 2.0 port. Then, on the right, you get a LAN port, followed by an HDMI 2.1 connector, a USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 1) port with DisplayPort support, a USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, and an audio jack.

I was completely surprised (in a good way) by MSI Pulse 15 B13V. I had never thought about buying an MSI laptop as it’s brand is not among the top famous in the category. I bought it at a computer store in Chicago and the sales person was skilfull enough to convince me it would be the best option when you’re looking for performance at an afordable price. The cost-effectiveness is the highest. The new Intel 13th generation CPU with 2 types of cores delivers an astonishing performance in all kinds of situations/uses. The MSI software embedded with the factory… Read more »
