MSI Pulse 15 (B13V) review – climbing up through the ranks

    Temperatures and comfort, Battery Life

    Max CPU load

In this test we use 100% on the CPU cores, monitoring their frequencies and chip temperature. The first column shows a computer’s reaction to a short load (2-10 seconds), the second column simulates a serious task (between 15 and 30 seconds), and the third column is a good indicator of how good the laptop is for long loads such as video rendering.

Average P-core frequency; Average E-core frequency; CPU temp.; Package Power

    Intel Core i7-13700H (45W TDP)0:02 – 0:10 sec0:15 – 0:30 sec10:00 – 15:00 min
    MSI Pulse 15 (B13V)3.70 GHz @ 2.36 GHz @ 86°C @ 96W3.52 GHz @ 2.37 GHz @ 87°C @ 89W3.23 GHz @ 2.54 GHz @ 77°C @ 87W
    MSI Vector GP773.86 GHz @ 3.08 GHz @ 89°C @ 135W3.75 GHz @ 3.10 GHz @ 94°C @ 128W3.24 GHz @ 3.00 GHz @ 81°C @ 90W

In comparison to the Vector GP77, the MSI Pulse 15 (B13V) does run its Core i7-13700H at lower clocks. Especially the E-cores.

    Real-life gaming

    NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 (140W)GPU frequency/ Core temp (after 2 min)GPU frequency/ Core temp (after 30 min)
    MSI Pulse 15 (B13V)2280 MHz @ 71°C @ 109W2280 MHz @ 70°C @ 109W
    MSI Vector GP772295 MHz @ 61°C @ 95W2295 MHz @ 61°C @ 95W

We can’t read too much into the power readings of the RTX 4070, but what we can tell is that the Pulse 15 is running at almost the same frequency as its more expensive brother. However, the temperature is about 10°C higher.

    Gaming comfort

And this makes an impact on gaming comfort. The laptop becomes pretty loud after a couple of minutes of gameplay. In addition, the keyboard reaches a temperature of 46.9°C, which is high, but not too bad.

    Battery

Now, we conduct the battery tests with the Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with. Here, you get a 90Wh battery pack. It lasts for 11 hours of Web browsing, or 8 hours of video playback.

Brightness: 180 nits; Display Mode: SDR
Time to Full Discharge: Higher is Better

In order to simulate real-life conditions, we used our own script for automatic web browsing through over 70 websites.

I was completely surprised (in a good way) by MSI Pulse 15 B13V. I had never thought about buying an MSI laptop as it’s brand is not among the top famous in the category. I bought it at a computer store in Chicago and the sales person was skilfull enough to convince me it would be the best option when you’re looking for performance at an afordable price. The cost-effectiveness is the highest. The new Intel 13th generation CPU with 2 types of cores delivers an astonishing performance in all kinds of situations/uses. The MSI software embedded with the factory… Read more »
