MSI Vector GP78 HX (13V) review – offers great build quality, fast display, and exceptional performance
This year MSI is offering some pretty good gaming devices with big displays. The Raider GE78 HX (13VX) is an impressive tool for playing games and we just didn’t like the high price and the noisy fans under load. Now, we are about to show you the MSI Vector GP78 HX (13V). Since it’s a Vector device, this one is more or less a step-down version of its Raider sibling but it comes with a bit lower price tag.
It’s not cheap at all because it can be configured with one of the most powerful CPU and GPU options for 2023. This includes 24-core Intel Raptor Lake HX processors and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4000 graphics cards with hefty TGPs. Since we want to see how good the cooling is, we bought a maxed-out version with a 175W GeForce RTX 4090. It’ll be interesting to see if this machine is as loud as its premium “cousin” when the hardware is pushed to its limits.
The 17″ 16:10 IPS display options correspond to the high expectations. The base panel is a 1200p unit with a 165Hz refresh rate and the optional variant is a 240Hz 1600p model. So, there are a few cuts here and there compared to the Raider iteration like a smaller battery and a Web camera with lower resolution, but the core features and hardware are almost the same. We are happy to see that the SteelSeries keyboard, the Gen 5 SSD slot, the MUX switch, and Wi-Fi 6E are onboard as well.

How did this test specifically go?
I’m curious about the stress test program, temperature monitoring program, and fan settings.
My laptop has a firestrike CPU temperature of 94 degrees even with ptm7950 and undervolting.
