Acer Predator Triton 17X (PTX17-71) review – Mini LED screen with an absurdly powerful hardware

    Disassembly, Upgrade options, and Maintenance

To open this device, you need to undo a total of 11 Torx-head screws. Then, pry the bottom panel with a plastic tool starting from one of the back corners.

Inside, we find a 99.9Wh battery pack. It lasts for 5 hours of Web browsing, or 4 hours and 30 minutes of video playback. To take it out, just unplug the battery from the motherboard and lift it away.

Here comes the interesting part. As you can see, the motherboard is flipped upside down. All of the upgrade options are located at the bottom. To access this crucial part of the device, you need to remove the Wi-Fi card and unplug every connector from the motherboard.

Then, undo all 8 Phillips-head screws that hold the motherboard to the chassis, and the four securing the fans in place. Keep in mind that two of them are located beneath the display connector.

After you remove the motherboard from the chassis, you can see the two SODIMM slots. They work with DDR5 RAM. Storage-wise, you get two M.2 PCIe x4 slots, which support Gen 4 SSDs and RAID mode.

This device’s cooling solution comprises a vapor chamber, as well as a heat spreader for the graphics memory, some heat pipes, four heat sinks, and three fans.

I have one of these on order. I couldn’t find any information if it has a Mux switch and thank goodness you mentioned it at the end of your view. So Thank you.

I am sadden by the lackluster performance. How and which mode is used? Are they hitting thermal throttling or power limit? Which mode was used for all the benchmarking?

As I recall the 2023 Asus Zephyrus Duo 16 only does the 175w CPU+GPU if it is in Turbo mode. Could it be possible Acer only allows 175w on CPU+GPU the same way?
