Acer Swift Edge (SFX16-61G) review – thin, powerful, and noisy

    Performance: CPU, GPU, Gaming Tests

    CPU options

    You have a plethora of refreshed Zen 3+ and new Zen 4 CPU options at your disposal – AMD Ryzen 5 7535HS (Zen 3+ Refresh), Ryzen 5 7640HS (Zen 4), Ryzen 5 7640H (Zen 4), Ryzen 7 7735HS (Zen 3+ Refresh), Ryzen 7 7840HS (Zen 4), Ryzen 7 7840H (Zen 4), Ryzen 9 7940HS (Zen 4), and Ryzen 9 7940H (Zen 4). The laptop that we bought has a Ryzen 9 7940HS under the hood.

Here, we evaluate the CPU's performance using a real-world 3D rendering task, assessing its ability to handle complex computations and rendering workloads efficiently.

Results are from the Cinebench 2024 Multi-Core test (higher is better)

    GPU options

There are two dGPU variants – the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 (Laptop, 100W), and the 6GB version of the RTX 3050. Our laptop is configured with the RTX 4050 because we want to torture the cooling system.

You can disable the dGPU via the Device Manager (if the Optimus mode is turned on in the BIOS) for using the laptop with iGPU only. The AMD Radeon 780M is a beast of an integrated solution for playing heavy games on Medium or High details. In Far Cry 6, the iGPU can show ~40FPS on Ultra details which is crazy.

dGPU (the 100W version of NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050)

Assassin’s Creed ValhallaFull HD, Low (Check settings)Full HD, Medium (Check settings)Full HD, High (Check settings)Full HD, Ultra (Check settings)
    Average FPS149 fps123 fps100 fps82 fps

Gears 5Full HD, Low (Check settings)Full HD, Medium (Check settings)Full HD, High (Check settings)Full HD, Ultra (Check settings)
    Average FPS201 fps153 fps136 fps108 fps

The 100W version of the RTX 4050 performs well and playing games on Ultra details with this video card is absolutely possible. For the best possible performance, you should select the “NVIDIA GPU only” mode which is located in the BIOS.

I just bought this laptop and I can confirm that the PWM of this OLED panel is really bad. This is my first oled laptop and for some reason, my eyes get tired easily while using this laptop. I just learned about PWM because I can feel the effects now. I checked my previous Legion Y540 and it has no PWM, no wonder I can stare at it all day and feel ok. I’m also using Samsung Note 20 Ultra but I don’t get eye strain and fatigue even when my brightness is set to below 50%, which is why… Read more »
