ASUS ExpertBook B1 (B1502) review – business features on the budget

Verdict

Once again, we are trying to find a place on the market for the ASUS ExpertBook B1 (B1502). There are a couple of things that need to be improved in order to make the laptop a good all-rounder.

First of all – the battery. While the screen-on times are not too bad – 8 hours and 30 minutes of Web browsing, or 6 hours and 30 minutes of video playback, the 42Wh capacity is just too small. Especially considering the aging that occurs in every battery cell, which can significantly affect your battery life.

ASUS ExpertBook B1 (B1502)’s IPS panel has a Full HD resolution, comfortable viewing angles, and a good contrast ratio. Its backlight doesn’t use PWM for brightness adjustment, which makes it safe for your eyes during long periods of use. On the other hand, it only covers half of the colors found on the Web (58% of sRGB).

Then come the positives – its port selection is great (although there is no SD card slot of any sort). On the inside, you get an M.2 PCIe x4 slot for Gen 4 and even Gen 3 SSDs. While you get some memory soldered to the motherboard, you can expand it via the single SODIMM slot.

Interestingly, the build quality is not bad, and ASUS can be seen boasting with the MIL-STD-810H durability test the notebook has run through. However, we can see some flex in the plastic structure of the machine.

Generally, all low-end business devices are plastic. However, this one also has the option of IR face recognition and a fingerprint reader that was available in our configuration.

So, if you are looking for a lowkey laptop for your office, the ExpertBook is a decent balance between financial stability and a good daily device.
