ASUS TUF Gaming A16 FA607 (2024) review – This Budget Gaming Laptop Packs a Surprise

The new ASUS TUF Gaming A16 FA607 (2024) is loaded with modern hardware. This includes powerful AMD Zen 4 Dragon Range-HX CPUs and NVIDIA RTX 4000 graphics cards with hefty TGPs. As always, the TUF machines are a step down compared to the ROG siblings but the manufacturer is trying to maintain a good price / performance ratio. Some of the most important gaming extras are available for all devices – G-Sync, MUX Switch, and NVIDIA Advanced Optimus support.

You get just two 165Hz IPS display options but that’s fine given the price tag. The base display is a 1200p unit while the optional model boasts a 1600 resolution. This reminds us that the panel ratio is 16:10 – the taller screen is more comfortable for work. The keyboard here has a backlight. The I/O seems good for the class but it lacks Thunderbolt 4 / USB4 ports. Still, you get two Type-Cs which is fine. The upgradability isn’t limited at all and that makes the device more future-proof. You can also rely on extras such as two Dolby Atmos speakers with AI noise-canceling technology and Wi-Fi 6 + Bluetooth 5.3 for connectivity.

What’s in the box?

The device is well-protected in a large sturdy box.

Inside, we found a bit of paperwork and a big 280W adapter. Some laptops are also bundled with a TUF backpack, P309 TUF GAMING M3 mouse, or a 100W Type-C AC Adapter but there are region-dependent goodies.

Can you tell me abit more regarding the Hinges’ durability? Do you think that ASUS TUF’s “military grade” laptop hinges are better than other budget laptop such as Acer Nitro, HP Victus, and MSI GF63? I’m really curious about how they compare. Thank you very much in advance!

To receive the MIL-STD 810H certifications, ASUS laptops undergo 12 test methods and 26 procedures, but none of them relate to hinges, here’s the testing report:
https://www.asus.com/event/2023/productguide/asus_consumer_laptops_military_grade_testing_report_202303.pdf

The laptops we review are brand new from an online store. Although we haven’t encountered problems with their hinges, we can’t guarantee long-term reliability.

Overall, we’re satisfied with the build quality of ASUS laptops; it’s clear they’ve put considerable thought into it.
