ASUS TUF Gaming A16 FA607 (2024) review – This Budget Gaming Laptop Packs a Surprise

    Verdict

The ASUS TUF Gaming A16 FA607 (2024) is a balanced gaming device that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. You don’t get tons of CPU and GPU options but the Dragon Range-HX CPUs pack a lot of power and the NVIDIA GPUs aren’t TGP limited. The cooling is doing its job well. The Ryzen 9 7845HX can sustain almost 4.00 GHz in long 100% CPU loads and the GeForce RTX 4060 boasts a 2610 MHz core clock in gaming. Now, the fans are definitely loud in “Turbo” mode. If you switch down to “Performance”, the processor clock remains decent (~3.60 GHz) while the graphics card power limit is ~80W.

The base PWM-free 1200p IPS panel (CSOT MNG007QA1-1 (CSW1639)) is surprisingly good. It’s snappy thanks to the 165Hz refresh rate and the 9 ms pixel response times. Also, the sRGB coverage is 93% and the color accuracy can be enhanced from a 3.1 score to an average dE result of 1.2 when our “Design and Gaming” profile is applied.

The keyboard is comfortable for both typing and gaming and the touchpad is smooth and precise. The upgradability is good – two M.2 slots for Gen 4 SSDs and a duo of SODIMMs for DDR5 memory. The I/O seems at least decent but there are no Thunderbolt 4 ports here. Still, four USBs in total + an HDMI 2.1 should be enough for most users. The main cons of the machine are the short battery life when it comes to video playback and the high NVMe temperatures during benchmarking.

The ASUS TUF Gaming A16 FA607 (2024) is a potent gaming device with snappy CPU and GPU options, good build quality, a large thermal system, and a color-accurate IPS display.

Can you tell me abit more regarding the Hinges’ durability? Do you think that ASUS TUF’s “military grade” laptop hinges are better than other budget laptop such as Acer Nitro, HP Victus, and MSI GF63? I’m really curious about how they compare. Thank you very much in advance!

To receive the MIL-STD 810H certifications, ASUS laptops undergo 12 test methods and 26 procedures, but none of them relate to hinges, here’s the testing report:
    https://www.asus.com/event/2023/productguide/asus_consumer_laptops_military_grade_testing_report_202303.pdf

The laptops we review are brand new from an online store. Although we haven’t encountered problems with their hinges, we can’t guarantee long-term reliability.

Overall, we’re satisfied with the build quality of ASUS laptops; it’s clear they’ve put considerable thought into it.
