ASUS TUF Gaming A16 FA607 (2024) review – This Budget Gaming Laptop Packs a Surprise

    Disassembly, Upgrade options, and Maintenance

To gain access to the internals, you need to undo 12 Philips-head screws. The one in the bottom right corner is captive and it’ll slightly raise the plate up and you can begin the prying process from there. You can start from the front, the left side should be last.

On the inside of the bottom plate, we can see dust filters for the fans and a lot of plastic elements for better internal structural support.

The battery is a 90Wh model. To remove it, unplug the connector from the motherboard and undo the 3 Philips head screws that fix the unit to the chassis. The capacity is enough for 7 hours and 42 minutes of Web browsing, or 4 hours and 33 minutes of video playback.

According to ASUS, the two SODIMMs fit up to 32GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM in dual-channel mode. However, since the CPU can support up to 64GB, this laptop likely wouldn’t have issues running a larger amount of memory than the official manufacturer’s specified limit.

Storage-wise, you get two M.2 slots compatible with Gen 4 SSDs.

The cooling has two Arc Flow fans, five heat pipes, four heat sinks, and two heat spreaders.

Can you tell me abit more regarding the Hinges’ durability? Do you think that ASUS TUF’s “military grade” laptop hinges are better than other budget laptop such as Acer Nitro, HP Victus, and MSI GF63? I’m really curious about how they compare. Thank you very much in advance!

To receive the MIL-STD 810H certifications, ASUS laptops undergo 12 test methods and 26 procedures, but none of them relate to hinges, here’s the testing report:
    https://www.asus.com/event/2023/productguide/asus_consumer_laptops_military_grade_testing_report_202303.pdf

The laptops we review are brand new from an online store. Although we haven’t encountered problems with their hinges, we can’t guarantee long-term reliability.

Overall, we’re satisfied with the build quality of ASUS laptops; it’s clear they’ve put considerable thought into it.

Oh no! The non-gaming battery life is 50% shorter than the 2023 model 🙁
