Genesis Radon 800 review – nice priced headphones with virtual 7.1 surround sound

The usage is business as usual – just hook up the desirable cable (yep, you got two of them, don’t forget that) and you are ready to go. The eco-leather pads are soft and comfortable and they don’t cause sweating but the extra pair of material pads is even softer and lighter. By the way, the official weight of the headphones is 178.9 grams – that’s possible with the 3.5 mm minijack and textile earpads. If you use the Type-A cable and the leather pads, the overall weight will be slightly higher. Oh, yes, and the microphone weighs an additional 9.5 grams.

The build quality is good – the headphones can lie flat on your desk because the cups are rotatable but they are not fully foldable – ergo, the ear cups can’t fold within the headband. The latter is covered with leather and the bottom side is a soft cushion. The hinges are made of aluminium as well as the internal part of the headband which is good in terms of durability. Now, we think that these headphones can be used by people with small and normal-sized heads and ears. It’s a bit difficult to explain, but if your head and ears are a bit bigger, probably these headphones are not your cup of tea. The microphone is detachable and you can bend it as well if don’t want it to be positioned directly in front of your mouth.

For that kind of price tag, the sound quality is good. We played some music – we can hear clear highs without distortion, the midrange is strong, and the vocals sound smooth. The whole soundstage can be described as, again, good. If you like rock music, you can clearly hear the back vocals and different instruments as well. The bass, well, it’s “somewhere in the middle”.

The dedicated software allows you to control standard options like volume control, equalizer, noise reduction (which actually works pretty neat), etc.

We used the headphones for a couple of rounds of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare II. The virtual 7.1 sound is a nice feature, especially for this kind of price tag. We can hear the footsteps of the enemies loud and crisp which really helps in fast-paced games. The Genesis Radon 800 is a comfortable product – it’s not too heavy, the headband is comfortable and soft, and even the eco-leather earpads are allowing some breathing for your ears.
