HP Envy x360 15 (15-fe0000) review – Unleashing the Hidden Color Accuracy Capabilities of This 2-in-1 Laptop

Verdict

If you are on the hunt for a modern 2-in-1 laptop but don’t want to spend too much money on it, the HP Envy x360 15 (15-fe0000) is one of the possible solutions. This is a multipurpose machine thanks to the long battery life and the good cooling system. The optional Core i7-1355U can maintain 2.86 GHz for the P cores and 2.13 GHz for the E cores in long loads which is a pretty good result for a laptop with transforming capabilities. The keyboard doesn’t feel too hot to the touch when the internals are heavily stressed (in “Performance” mode). In this case, the fan becomes audible but it doesn’t sound like a vacuum cleaner. For standard daily tasks, just use the “Quiet” preset or the “Smart Sense” auto mode that offers a less aggressive fan curve.

The biggest surprise here is the 1080p IPS display (LG Display LGD0762). It reaches a peak brightness of 381 cd/m2 and has a 99% sRGB color coverage. Also, the contrast ratio is very good (1780:1) and thanks to our “Design and Gaming” profile, the color accuracy can be enhanced from a 4.9 result to an average dE score of just 0.8 which is a significant difference! This makes the display suitable for color-sensitive tasks and even for content creation, especially if you get the optional GeForce RTX 3050 (Laptop).

No complaints regarding the port selection – two Thunderbolt 4s and two 10 Gbps USB Type-As. Expectedly, the upgradability isn’t something special – soldered memory and just one M.2 slot but that applies to many other 2-in-1 machines. Overall, the HP Envy x360 15 (15-fe0000) is a solid offer in its class. It doesn’t cost an arm and leg and it impresses with a great IPS display, 360-degree hinge, capable cooling, and long battery life.
