MSI Cyborg 15 A13V review – A Refreshing Take on Affordable Gaming

Design and construction

The look of the MSI Cyborg 15 A13V isn’t that different compared to the A12V sibling and even the dimensions remain the same – 1.98 kg weight and a 21.95-22.9mm profile. Thanks to the translucent plastic elements on the chassis, the design seems distinctive and fresh.

The aluminum lid opens easily with a single thanks to the protrusion on the top. The unit seemed solid when we tried to press it down in the middle. In an open position, the rigidity is above average. The plastic base is also stable, we spot a few bends below the keyboard but you’re not going to notice that during typing.

The “hump” on the lid is also home to a 720p Web camera.

The max angle of the opening is close to the 180-degree mark.

On the base, we can see the keyboard with a translucent WASD section. Most keycaps are big while the ones of the NumPad and the Arrow zone are a bit reduced in size (but they are still large enough for normal usage). The board is good for typing or gaming – the key travel is long and the feedback is good (but not among the best). The base unit glows in a single color (blue) and you can also opt for an optional 4-Zone RGB keyboard.

The touchpad is smooth and accurate, but its clicks are loud and the lower side of the pad feels a bit wobbly.

The translucent bottom panel houses two speaker cutouts and a ventilation grill. The heat is pushed through two vents – one on the back, and one on the left side of the laptop.

Ports

On the left side, there is a security lock slot, a USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, and an Audio combo jack. On the right side you get the power plug, LAN, an HDMI 2.1 connector (for up to 4K@60Hz external displays), a USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 1) port with DisplayPort output and charging support (5V/3A), and one more USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port.
