ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 GU605 review – Thin on Size, Big on Power, This OLED Laptop is a Gaming Beast

The thin and light gaming laptops are definitely evolving in the right direction. The 2024 models can be found with Intel Meteor Lake CPUs and fast NVIDIA RTX 4000 graphics cards. The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 GU605 is a powerful machine that can be ordered with up to Intel Core Ultra 9 185H and GeForce RTX 4090. That’s pretty sweet for a 16-incher with a sub-1.90 kg weight. Good news, everyone: We have not only the high-end RTX 4090, but as a bonus – also the entry-level RTX 4050.

The memory here is soldered which is one of the possible methods for achieving a thin profile and shaving away a few grams. Still, the storage upgradability is on point. ASUS offers this laptop with a vapor chamber cooling that is reserved for the most powerful configurations.

The laptop looks and feels like a premium piece of tech. In terms of displays, you can choose between two 1600p 240Hz panels (also called 2.5K by ASUS) – a “normal” IPS unit (which is the default option) and an OLED variant for people who have wider wallets and want to experience infinite contrast ratio and super fast pixel response times.

The fancy screen and the six-speaker setup can make the device into a multimedia center for listening to your favorite tracks or watching HDR movies. Yes, both displays support this tech. The device has all the needed ingredients to be called a gaming beast. This includes support for G-Sync, MUX Switch, and NVIDIA Advanced Optimus. The chassis may be thin but somehow the manufacturer found a way to fit a 90Wh battery. The I/O seems modern and you get Wi-Fi 6E + Bluetooth 5.3 for connectivity.

What’s in the box?

As with many other notebooks from the same brand, the package contains a smaller box where you’ll find the laptop itself and some manuals. The GeForce 4080 / 4090-based machine are bundled with a 240W adapter, while the other devices rely on a 200W charger. The box may also contain peripherals such as ROG Zephyrus G16 Sleeve, ROG Impact Gaming Mouse, or a 100W Type-C AC Adapter but these extras aren’t standard for all machines.

Definitely impressive to fit a 90Wh battery in such a thin chassis!
