Dell G15 5530 review – still a little obese, but has a good cooling
Design and construction
As in the previous models, the Dell G15 5530 comes with an all-plastic body. Sure, there are some structural components on the inside, that are made of metal, but the external shell of the product is entirely plastic.
Unfortunately, this means that the lid is super flexy – like Swiss cheese. On the other hand, the base is incredibly sturdy. So much, in fact, that it flexes your hands when you try to twist it. Dimensions-wise, we are talking about a thickness of 21.3-26.2mm and a weight of 2.81 kg.
In addition, the design seems a bit overhauled with the back being completely flat, which looks pretty sick (it kind of reminds us of the Chaparral 2J without the vacuum fans on the back). By the way, the heat sinks and the G logo on the side are all Orange.
Here, the lid can be opened with one hand, which is expected, given the chunky chassis. Unlike the G16 7630, this model has a 16:9 aspect ratio, which results in a bit thicker top and bottom bezels. Thankfully, the side ones are really thin. Also, you can find an HD Web camera above the matte display.
Moving to the base, we are met by a decent ventilation grill. Keep in mind that the backside of the base is protruding backward, which moves most of the heating components away from the keyboard, and crucially – your hands. In terms of comfort, the keyboard feels a bit soft, while the key travel is moderately long. All in all, Dell continues the concept of using an office keyboard on its gaming machine, which is again contrary to what it did with its more expensive G16 7630. On the bright side, it offers a NumberPad section, as well as an optional four-zone RGB backlight.
As you can tell, the palm rest area is pretty small, which is the case with the touchpad too. Its size of 60 by 105 mm is nothing close to what you can see on the ROG Strix G16 (G614, 2023) for example. On the bright side, it is pretty responsive.
Now, turn the laptop upside down, and you will see the two speaker cutouts and the ventilation grill. Hot air, respectively, gets exhausted through four vents – two on the back, and one on each side of the machine.
Ports
On the left side, you get a LAN port and an Audio jack. Switch to the right, and you will see two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports. Then, on the back, there are the USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) port with DisplayPort capability, an HDMI 2.1 connector, a USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, and the power plug.

The Display here is a LG, the one in the Notebookcheck review is from AUO. Sadly, we as a consumer have no way to tell Dell which display we want. But the meassured frequency in tthe notebookcheck review is quite high so it should not affect the user.
Oh, ok. Thanks for the confirmation , I think I’ll have to email to DELL directly then
Hello, it seems like that the i9-13900HX model is only available in some countries, so far, the “Dell G15 5530 i9” is available in Tunisia, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
Tunisia offers the cheapest option, here’s a link to it. https://www.tunisianet.com.tn/pc-portable-tunisie/68323-pc-portable-dell-gaming-g15-5530-i9-13e-gen-64-go-rtx-4060-8g-windows-11.html
It’s around 2000 USD assuming no sales.
Hola por allá… como ya viste el cargador es masivo y si es pesado, por lo que necesito ayuda para ver si podría haber en el mercado alguno otro cargador compatible de menores proporciones, sin perder tanto capacidad.
Saludos desde México.
I recently bought a 5530 with an RTX 4060. It will not run 3840×2160 HDR 60Hz thru the HDMI 2.1 port. I turned off the Intel UHD GPU in the bios. Despite that, this resolution runs thru the USB-C DP 1.4 port via the Intel GPU. My desktop, 8930 Dell, with the RTX 2060 will also do it. My Sony STR-DH790 AVR, Vizio M658-1 and cables should be fine, not the problem. The last Tech support I received from a supervisor blamed my Vizio. What is wrong with HDMI 2.1?
